It’s ontopic about this part. To tag things not generated as ‘ai generated’ to get them removed with the sweep of actual ai generations, they suspect it will be done with a script, so automation will be used against derpibooru.

Scripts are already being used against the site. If someone vandalizes tags, we deal with them.

If you have a legitimate problem that you’d like to report, use a report and provide your evidence. Otherwise you’re just vagueposting about something for which you’re providing zero creditable evidence other than “someone on the internet said”.

I don’t think it’ll happen since 4chan isn’t anybody’s personal army.

Missed opportunity with the name for the spinoff site. The new one should have had a name that pairs with derpibooru. E621 has e6ai. Derpibooru could have derpibot. Much better at conveying what it’s for than the hard-to-spell and overly-referential name that actually got used.

Ah well, no skin off my nose, given I never uploaded anything I made with Stable Diffusion.

Really wish we could have stuck with “machine learning” instead of switching to using “ai” for the tags, though. It just sounds better, like with “program” vs “app” (ugh).

Since you’re all so clearly against AI art in general, how do you guys feel about using an AI generated pic as a direct reference for your own art? As in generating a pic, then (without directly tracing) redrawing it more or less exactly as generated but in your own style? Would that still be “cheating” or is that now okay?

If that’s okay, what about if I included minimal tracing for some more difficult parts? Like, say I tried drawing the face a half dozen times and it kept coming out wonky, so I load the AI pic and trace the eyes and mouth, then remove the AI pic and continue drawing the rest from there? Or if I load the AI pic and use that to place my construction circles (meaning the very first lines you draw, the rough circles showing where limbs and torso go), then remove the pic and draw based on that construction?

Personally, I’m with the few others that have said that Derpaibooru would’ve been a good site name, but what’s done is done.

I think the switch to “ai” was made just generally because that was the standard term being used everywhere else, including on sites for generating machine learning generated art as well.

Nobody’s ever cared about that. There’s the ai interpretation tag for people that do that and want to let others know they did, for whatever reason.

Yes, so against it that I decided to fund a separate site for it and rather than just ban it entirely here, and instead promote it being used as an artistic tool.

I would rather avoid names that are direct references to derpi as down the line the site’s rules are likely to change to the site’s own needs, and I neither want to tie that place to this one, nor confuse people that think it’s just a 1:1 except for AI.

Bug report: in the description of ai composition, the link to AI quality guidelines page is broken. It just says [this page] without actually being a link.

Thanks, that’s helpful. Giving examples of “below the bar” and “above the bar” is exactly what I had in mind. Would be great if this was put either in the description of ai composition, on the AI quality page, or on a separate guidelines page.

I hope there’s actually some invisible majority of skilled artists who weren’t posting because of AI that will come back, because dramatically cutting content volume on a fan website for an IP that is aging rapidly isn’t exactly an obvious path to success.

I’m not sure that filling it with the images no one drew is the answer to that

Herp, should be fixed now.

And I intend to work on some example images, yeah. Due to various ~reasons~ haven’t been able to yet.

it’s not like ai is getting purged out of existence, so doesn’t really change much.

As an artist who invested a lot of time into complex rendering: i am pretty demotivated to draw heavy rendered stuff.

Also hoping for that. I haven’t been uploading much because of their presence on the site. Who knows? Maybe new people will see that Derpi doesn’t host unedited AI photos and will draw here without fear of being out-designed by one. Kind of like a… safe space?

I see there are still new AI Generated tagged images being uploaded. Maybe that tag should have a similar denial message as when DNP artist’s tags are added, and redirect people to upload to Tantabus?

Which is soon. It’s 12:32 AM on December 14 right now where I am.

What can we do to fix this so this change does not go into effect?

But the ones currently on the site will remain? I ask cause I use them as inspiration and references for my own work.

I’m pretty sure the admins intend to go through with this.
If you wanted to stop it regardless you’d have to get everyone posting on the site to act collectively, but it’s clear from this thread that many people (myself included) like this change, so that’s also off the table.
