saw the new tyt episode and it makes me wonder if the tyt writers are combing fimfiction for ideas because it feels like the funhouse mirrors came from one of my own fanfics (not gonna link because lewd). also where is funhouse?

If getting a reply is that important to you, I’ll pay rent.

Specifically, I’m making fun of people who assume that she’s been completely written out of the show just because we haven’t seen her in a few episodes. Which is a silly assumption. Boardtrot exists because of the events in The Blockywockys, and if they haven’t forgotten about Boardtrot, they probably haven’t forgotten about Allura. I made that point two weeks ago.

I’m also pre-emptively making fun of the aforementioned people’s reactions when Allura does show up again.

Three’s a crowd and I’m baffled that some or just the entire g5 purist side are okay with this. Not that I ever despised G5 but our main point is that what is Sunny even doing here? To exist? Make 30 episodes with her being absent and we wouldn’t even notice. Bonus points when said gap is very long.

That’s not true. We saw Spike. It’s been five generations and characters only live so long. Plus, the other kingdoms are physically far away from Equestria.

Well just a handful of examples are just:

-We still have no idea what happened to Twilight despite her getting brought up constantly
-We still have no idea how the supposed War between Twilight and Opaline truly went or how Opaline ended up imprisoned in her castle
-We still have no idea why Equestria is apparently sealed off and supposedly full of vine things beyond all that weird talk about Twilight making ‘Invisibubbles’
-We still have no idea what was up with all that weird talk about the pony races splitting off cause of some random conflict of some seemingly random pony got injured, and we still don’t know if Opaline was tied to that or not
-We still have no idea how and why Spike ended up on a random far off island and apparently is the Dragonking.
-We still know next to nothing about what a Prisbeam is, or what the Unity Crystals really are since it’s been described as everything from ‘something that just always existed’ to ‘something Twilight made to seal off villains from magic’ to ‘some sort of ‘conduit’ to the elements(??)’

And that’s only the surface level stuff that the writers kept bringing back up in confusing magical technobabble over in MYM and the comics.

I feel like a lot of g5 fans have a weird mix of Stockholm syndrome mixed with invented memories issues of erasing all memories of all the massive amount of filler in these shows, and hyperfixating on the good parts. Like sure Misty had a good character arc, but it always feels like people have forgotten that she’s the ONLY one to have an arc and just have weird fanfiction memories of the rest of the cast having moments that never happened.

Course I say this as someone in pure Stockholm to keep watching this show for Zipp and Pipp’s wacky hijinks while writing fanfics of Sunny and all having more fun adventures.

I’m downright sick and tired of the generally antagonistic attitude I’ve been seeing in this thread. People like you don’t need to make jejune comments, rude callouts, and baseless overgeneralizations of fans every single time you read a comment you don’t like. What’s the problem with just leaving people be and letting them have their opinions?

But according to Spike, Opaline had attacked twice, and that ties in with what came out during the Discord Arc in the IDW comics. The first attack was stopped by Twilight and her friends. Spike did not explain when the Unity Crystals were created, only in response to Opaline’s attacks. Opaline was not exiled or imprisoned, she managed to escape before being taken into custody. We know Opaline knew about the Unity Crystals from the very beginning in MYM, and she had admitted that they may have played a role in her losing her magic.

So;

Opaline attacking Equestria for the first time, was beaten by Twilight.
Opaline attacked the dragons, took their magic and attacked Equestria a second time.
Opaline is defeated, stripped of her magic by Twilight.
Twilight creates the Invisi-Bubble to keep Opaline out, and from spying on Equestria

It’s really hard to place. Logic dictates that Twilight could not take the magic from Opaline without storing it, for this she needed the Unity Crystals. From the Discord Arc, it is said that the Unity Crystals were created during the first attack to bring the magic under control. With it, Twilight can take the magic from Opaline, the alicorn powers, pony magic and dragon magic that had been stolen in the meantime. Spike explained that the dragon magic was placed in the Dragon Stone after this. Opaline somehow managed to escape.

This is actually a logical conclusion because Opaline was still at large and they knew that she can use her elemental magic to steal magic from others, especially fire magic that the dragons possess. The dragons had to go to their homeland. And since, according to Zipp, the dragons had been observed several generations before, it was believed that they did not live in isolation, but probably could not leave their homeland. But Spike and the dragons chose to hibernate, possibly at Twilight’s encouragement. They likely woke up the last time Equestria had magic, but re-hibernated as Opaline suggested when she observed them, in reaction to the loss of magic in Equestria.

After that, it is not known what happened for several centuries between Opaline’s defeat and the ANG movie. Opaline sought refuge in the dark castle which she refused to leave, where she found/created a together tree which may have been her source of being able to use magic. But Twilights had left behind a series of spells, not just a lone spell, that wasn’t just aimed at her. It’s very strange that Twilight and Spike didn’t try to find Opaline. Because she was never far away.

This is partly contradicted by MYM ch. 3 where a book was found and read, where it is written in black and white the guardians who were responsible for each part of the Unity Crystals, which were separated without the magic disappearing, began to forget. When these split up, as Sunny’s story in MYM revealed, the magic was probably not gone. Sunny thought Twilight had removed the magic to stop the ponies from attacking each other. But we learned that the magic does not disappear if the Unity Crystals are separated. Then came an important revelation from a partially published book that had been retracted by Hasbro. It was at the same time that MYM ended. It was then explained that if the Unity Crystals are separated from each other for too long, the magic will disappear by itself. Izzy said it; “pop!” No wonder Hasbro withdrew the book.

No one knows why or how the guardians started to forget or why the tribes are separated from each other, when there are many indications that it happened without conflict and that they had magic when it happened. And after the magic was gone, they accused each other without being able to remember how it happened. Opaline had probably not been involved.

And it was after Twilight had disappeared, the glass window suggests that the Unity Crystals had come from the sky as the book in MYM ch. 3 meant. This in itself is a contradiction, for the Unity Crystals were created while Spike watched, and these were in Twilight’s possession.

And lastly, why was Ponyville evacuated? It is possible that Zephyr Heights is on the mountain above Canterlot that had been abandoned, while Cloudsdale is being evacuated because the magic had begun to fail. All references to middle Equestria with the valley where Ponyville once stood are gone from G5.

The book in MYM ch. 3, Elderflower in MYM ch. 5, ep. 4 showed traces of having lived when the tribes were together in her youth, and several other examples indicate that the magic disappeared three and a half generations ago. A generation for a man is thirty years. Then it means that it is between 90 and 120 years. IDW comics has shown several times, most recently in SYS, that the time of the disappearance of magic was three generations.

I think G4 and G5 are about 800 to 1,000 years apart. Twilight may have ruled for many centuries until she disappeared, while Opaline waited and waited in her self-made prison. It is possible that Twilight and Spike had wanted to wait out Opaline who may have become a normal pony, but the together tree that was in the dark castle may have restored the latent alicorn magic in her.

So we don’t know about Twilight’s fate. Why Ponyville had to be abandoned. Or most tellingly, why such a large part of the equestrian fauna - chimeric monsters and mythological monsters - has completely disappeared. If the Unity Crystals came from the sky, how did they get there if they were with Twilight on the ground? And why does it feel like the Winter Wishday was a commemoration?

There are still many mysteries. But unfortunately these involve Twilight and the connection with G4. And it is possible that this is unavailable because Discovery and Hasbro may have been in conflict regarding the G4 rights, although this is not confirmed - but not rejected.

I do think he can ramble more than necessarily, but I don’t mind for the most part. In fact, I applaud his creativity and imagination.

I know, you’d think someone who always likes to insist that he’s neutral and calls himself “quiet” would be less snappy, more understanding of the opinions of others, and not see everything in black and white. Just because you like to talk about what you think G5 does better than G4 a lot doesn’t mean you’re a hostile G5 purist. Just because a guy likes to defend G5 doesn’t mean he thinks any kind of G5 criticism is unfounded. Just because G5 fans are getting death threats doesn’t mean they’re being just as bad as toxic G4 fans (I WISH I WAS MAKING THIS UP). It’s this constant jumping to conclusions that needs to STOP. I will NOT put up with it anymore.

That’s perfectly valid and okay. Got no issues with different views. The only thing I won’t tolerate is others being antagonized for stupid reasons. If you actually think our fandom has a “G5 purist problem”…..like, did you see the comment sections for the Equestria Daily articles for the newest TYT episode and the first episode of Wild Manes? I want you to read those comments, then come back to me and tell me this fandom has a “G5 purist problem”.

Pretty sure that the main problem with reacting to G5 this fandom still has is being overly critical and cynical about it.

4 was filler heavy but it was also just a slice of life cartoon that only occasionally dabbled in trying to tell grand stories. 5’s got a serious problem of constantly trying to tease that there’s some huge backstory and big plot twists coming just around the corner, but then Misty is the only one who ever gets any actual payoff to her setups since the writers just forget the rest of the cast even exist most of the time.

Zipp’s got that whole “does she actually want to be the next queen” arc which seems like it’s gonna be brought up again in the comics. So at least her arc is continuing.

Hitch’s dragon dad arc stagnated after the first MYM special.

Sunny’s alicorn arc has Skyros, which is something. But given how sparsely she’s being used, who knows when or how that will end.

Pipp and Izzy had arcs?

If you’re talking about BP whatever number he is, you’ll be surprised, that wasn’t me. But maybe you’re right. It’s hard being neutral because I’m just the third party enemy to both sides rather than a common ally. And in another thread that one guy has a point, we can’t keep walking straight all the time. Most of us are on a sliding scale of beliefs and morality. Not easy to balance to those out.

Eh, gonna have to agree to disagree on that - I don’t think G5 has really ever teased that everything will be answered or anything like that - I think that’s more a product of the fandom being up its own collective ass about G4 lore (ignoring the inconvenient truth that G4 contradicted its own lore at multiple junctures) and thinking that G5 absolutely has to answer about what happened that one time Twilight Sparkle stubbed her hoof and Luster Dawn just happened to be around to hear it, or why Applejack’s apple harvest was only 49 trees one year instead of 50.
