Hey there’s a distinction I think needs making.
The tag Nymph means a young changeling. However, the G5 comics introduced a character named Milkyway, who is called a wishing nymph, and is a completely different species of creature. Much more fox and fairy like. But the nymph tag still gets used for her.
Should there be a second tag for Wishing Nymph instead?

I’m only able to guess what you’re trying to say. But if I’m right, the whole idea behind a search for
stallion
is just for non-anthro stallions. Anything else wouldn’t be what one is looking for. If one’s looking for anthros they could just do male, anthro
, which is the only category missing for a search like that. If they’re looking for all male unicorns, I don’t see the issue here. If there’s multiple subjects in an image, they’re still going to get wonky results regardless without adding exclusions.Tagging Discussion » Species listing » Post 797

The whole problem is you can’t differentiate between diff sexes+types of [semi-]anthro without things like
stallion
& pony
, cuz the simple unicorn,male
encompasses so many other male Unicorn things than just ponies, there’s a reason e621 doesn’t have such restrictions, only using anthro
/feral
(and the likes of plantigrade anthro
, and maybe others that I can’t come up with right away) to be more specific about it.Tagging Discussion » Species listing » Post 796

I don’t think it should apply to anthros. Semi-a is more tolerable but bordering it since it’s basically bipedal pony. The idea I have in mind is that it depends on what I’d think one is looking for when searching a term. Horses, ponies, and maybe semi (basically quads or quad-like) come to mind for a search like that. Not anthros. I’ve removed it when I’ve seen it on anthro images.

What about
I’d be ok with having male anthros being stallions too.
What about
mare
and stallion
? I’ve seen it with, and I’ve seen it without, but I’m not certain there’s a single major rule about it.I’d be ok with having male anthros being stallions too.

If there does end up being a site-wide announcement: PLEASE include something about
pony
not applying to anthro
and semi-anthro
, semi-anthro
’s description, and a reminder to check tag descriptions before applying/removing them.EDIT: Also a reminder to add relevant “common” species tags that are usually forgotten: Earth Pony (very commonly missing), Pegasus (Missing on anthro alongside wingless anthro), Alicorn (on anthro: wingless alicorn, wingless anthro), unicorn, dragon, digitigrade anthro (dragons(?)).

Not really, they look completely different
How is that unique to this? Dragons look different in every Gen they appear in, especially when one keeps in mind the “Spike” of each Generation usually looks totally different than the dragons around them (up to and including G5’s “Spike” Sparky).
I don’t even really see how it’d be useful just for body-type categorization; Unlike the G1 to G4 Seaponies, or the G1 to G5 Troggles, Dragons are not a species MLP invented. There were hundreds or thousands of quadrupedal dragons on-site before hand (including ones in other Generations), and it feels rather arbitrary to only tag the ones that show up in G5 as this unique thing, as if there’s
It wouldn’t even be consistent within itself: Sparky, the first and most commonly appearing dragon in G5, has the exact same body-type as G4 young Spike.
every other dragon on the site both canon and fanmade
and dragon (g5)
. But even if you were, quadrupedal dragon
or something like it to apply to all four-legged dragons makes much more sense. It wouldn’t even be consistent within itself: Sparky, the first and most commonly appearing dragon in G5, has the exact same body-type as G4 young Spike.
If we have tags for adult Spike and winged Spike, then I see no reason to not have a tag for G5 dragons.
Those aren’t even the same types of tags. A more appropriate comparison to something like
winged spike
would be spike (g5), a tag concept I’m totally okay with for that reason (although I would like it to have a more descriptive and distinguishable tag name).Tagging Discussion » Species listing » Post 792

Not really, they look completely different, and generation tag markers may not be sufficient enough to differentiate them due to overlap, especially because of the Spike carry-over. If we have tags for adult Spike and winged Spike, then I see no reason to not have a tag for G5 dragons.

Seems like kind of a pointless distinction, especially since they take place in the same continuity.

Yeah, seaponies were my inspiration, as G1 and G4 seaponies are different yet similar in concept and named the same.

Considering the sea pony and seapony (g4) have about the same level of difference to these, I’d be in support to split them. Would have to go back a bit to update previous dragon images to dragon g5, but searching dragon,g5 shows only a few thousand so certainly do-able. Also keep the current dragon tag as dragon still, similar to how only seapony (g4) has the generation after. Would be nice if we could do some sort of announcement for it as well, otherwise there’ll be a lot of retagging and pming about the g5 dragon before it has wider use.

Stupid idea, feel free to dismiss, but I feel like the dragons from G5 should have their own species tag, because they’re so different and we have separate species tags for multiple types of seaponies after all.
Just like

I would like to suggest “Snepgasus” as a new therm for that Race of Allura ^^
Snowleopard pegasus
Since Snep is already a well used therm for Snow Leopard in the Furry Community it sounds like a good short name for it ^^

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization
, wings
, and spread wings
would all be found by a search for wing
, but sewing
would not be.
