She shows up, she immediately makes friends, understands the magic of friendship, is the goddamn Princess’s (One, singular, the most looked up to and authoritative figure in the world as far as we know at the time) prized pupil and only actual protegé that we know of (besides Sunset Shimmer who wasn’t actually created at the time).
 
Not a Mary Sue you say? She’s perfectly capable to handle everything, she can organize and prioritize, and her ONLY flaw is that she overthinks things sometimes. Cool.
 
And don’t even get me started on the fact that she was supposed to become Princess the entire fucking time.

Fine, her personality is that of an arrogant, self assured bitch that doesn’t learn anything and constantly fucks everything up. She also doesn’t really change it because she’s all “Sorry” and then does the same shit anyways afterwards, even up until Starlight gets involved (gag). So basically, she’s not one dimensional, she’s two dimensional. I suppose that’s better than at least Flash fucking Sentry.

Trixie has no personality and needed huge support from the fanbase to get any sort of development, and she didn’t even change until way later in the series. Moondancer… I have no issues with. Her episode was fine, and she wasn’t overblown by anyone else.

Little Strongheart is vastly superior to all the would-be Twilights. Starlight might be better than Sunset, but that’s only marginal, and Little Strongheart was far more endearing to me when I saw her episode. She only needed one, and the other girls have become oversaturated throughout the show and movies and shorts and all of that.

Flash Sentry is so fucking pushed. I hate forced ships and Flash just comes across as a beta male, especially once Timber hits the stage. Dear lord Flash Sentry became irrelevant and I’m extremely happy that he’s absolutely not included in any canon episodes to a meaningful degree, because he is absolute trash and the force with which Hasbro tried to ship him is just gag-inducing.

Flim and Flam are among the best antagonists in FiM due to their semi-realistic portrayal of their character types, the suave conmen that trick you with flowery language and make out like bandits. Meanwhile Trixie and Gilda needed extra episodes and a ridiculously overzealous fanbase to make them bearable at best, and give them a little nuance. Flim and Flam didn’t need it, as they didn’t need to change characters to stay endearing and simply stuck to their guns even as they were encountered more often!

Chrysalis is an awful villain. She’s one dimensional and comically evil to the point of self parody and literally nobody can take her seriously.

Spike has the potential to be such a great character. He provides a lot of nuance and is an understanding and happily supporting character when hes not in the spotlight. However, whenever he’s the main character, the writer’s basically say “Haha look at the stupid fucking baby dragon hahahaha everyone point and laugh at his stupid shit.” which basically undermines everything that he does when he’s a supporting cast member.
 
Rarity is garbage. Okay, let me rephrase: Rarity episodes (At least for a good three seasons to begin with) are garbage. They seemingly only focus on the same thing: Her ability to be selfish and greedy. Moreover, the moral rarely includes the lesson that she was being bad, more like “Oh well, it all worked out anyways so you know, no harm no foul!” and that makes me fucking gnash my teeth every time. Later on, in episodes like Rarity Takes Manehattan, she was fantastic, but god damn the first few seasons…
