Awful people are the essential basis of most fiction. Back at the beginning of the show half the mane 6 were pretty terrible, and it was great.

my issue with it was how twilight was willing to forgive and trust starlight glimmer, a manipulative lying psychopath, on the word of said manipulative lying psychopath that she had changed, but was not willing to forgive and trust trixie who, whether you feel is a bad guy or not, wasn’t even in the same league as starlight. hence my double standard remark. it just made her look less like a concerned teacher and more like a hypocritical jerk who wasn’t able to drop her grudge with someone.

there’s something truly serendipitous about someone misspelling “foolish” when calling someone a fool…

Also, even though you could argue it’s a bit of a retcon, I’m surprised more people didn’t appreciate that they decided to go back and make Trixie’s reformation more of a gradual thing. Rather than becoming instantly good at the end of magic duel.

I mean, she kinda WAS. Which is what people who like NSP tend to like about it. That all parties involved were wrong in some ways. Trixie WAS trying to use Starlight to get back at Twilight. Starlight was rebelling against Twilight and ditching her. Twilight was more focused on impressing Celestia than on giving Trixie and Starlight credit (she had such little faith in Starlight that she thought a single bad influence could turn her evil again?)
 
I think if that dinner with Celestia hadn’t happened, Twilight would’ve been more open to the idea of Trixie being Starlight’s friend.

it was a very pointless retcon though. trixie could have been legitimately good-intentioned, but just a bad influence, and the episode wouldn’t have changed a bit. in fact it would have made for a really good lesson, that is “don’t be taken in by the bad traits of others”, instead of feeling like a contrived way to give starlight the moral high ground and generating false conflict, and it had the side effect of entirely negating trixie’s entire (albeit somewhat cheap) apology. hell, the story could have been about starlight and trixie both learning to lighten up and not be bad influences on each other.

i couldn’t care less what “fandumb” thinks about any one character or episode. i judge things based on my own perceptions, right or wrong, and don’t rely on stereotyping or making assumptions of the viewers to make a statement.

I dunno. I just love that moment when Trixie’s ego makes her get caught up in her gloating and she instantly, earnestly regrets. It’s like such a real emotional reaction. To realize that your own flaws have taken something you actually cared about from you.
 
I already liked Trixie a lot. But that was like, honestly, one of my favourite scenes in the show. In it’s entirety. Trixie just felt so real in that moment.
