It honestly makes me wonder if Hitch were a girl if people would treat him the same. Like I know mane 6 shipping existed in G4 as well, but it wasn’t as widely forced upon any of the characters as for Hitch. Sucks bc I don’t ship him with anybody and just want to see my boy live his single-dad life lmfao

They definitely wouldn’t ship it.
It’s a bit of a matter of habit, since Hitch is the first and only male protagonist Pony, but note that at the time when we only had the film, fans didn’t so actively ship Hitch with everyone,
I think a factor that contributed to the high level of the ship is because the Mane Six barely interact with other male characters,
I feel like if hitch wasn’t the only male protagonist and for example izzy was a boy they wouldn’t ship hitch so much with everyone because fans would see that girls treat hitch like any other stallion

Eh, Hitch was shipped mostly with Sunny during the movie’s existence. I know Izzyscout was probably more popular but Hitch and Sunny being childhood friends definitely helped something.

Obviously Hitch would be shipped, but there is a difference between being shipped with a character, for example since the beginning of G4 many fans shipped Sparity and being actively shipped with all the characters for every small interaction, and almost anything generates some debate about who the character should end up with
