I kinda wanna post a thread about what people would headcanon characters as if they where human (like their race, skin colour, nationality etc.), but I’m kinda worried it will just turn into drama.

Based on the comment sections I’ve seen for pictures where someone did do that… yeah, I’d say you’re undoubtedly correct. Nothing good ever seems to result from fans making Twilight and company actual people colors/nationalities. Which is a big reason I still say that the team working on Equestria Girls was smart to make them retain their pony colors in the “human world”, because any other way they could have gone with that would likely have turned an already drama filled situation into a roiling, conflagration of anger.
 
On the subject though, I do wonder if there’s more of a tendency for the viewer to imagine them as the same nationality they are, or a different one. Most of the time, if pressed, I usually think of them in human forms looking a lot like me (color wise), and I’ve often wondered if that is in fact a typical response.
 
I will say though, I remember artist kilala97 had a version of Rarity as European/Afro-Caribbean that I thought was pretty cool.

Yeah. I might not be a fan ok kilala, but the shit she and her GF got for not making the M6 all white was stupid (which resulted in them telling the site to not upload anymore of their humanisation stuff.).
 
And yeah, the EWG drama was bad when it was first announced. They made them have human skin colours, everyone would have flipped.
 
But for me when it comes to making ponies human, I have a method I use sometimes, if you are interested in hearing it.

The method that i sometimes use, is based on what colour the coat is of a pony. Like for example, Bon Bon was a pretty light coloured coat, so i made her white skinned. While with a pony with a much darker scheme like Thunderlane, i would make him black.
 
Although sometimes other factors come into it. Like Vinyl, she was a white coat, yet in my headcanon, i imagine her as having black skin, because i think her hair works well against dark skin (same with Lyra and Indigo Zap, their colours work well against dark skin.)
 
Also, i think i might be one of the few people who actually thinks black skin works well on Applejack. I think her orange coat would work well with it.

Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if there were a few people who do humanizations that also do something like that, although your other factors (what you think would look good with ___) is not one I’ve heard all too often before. Still, I appreciate your sharing. It’s always interesting to get a different person’s perspective on the matter.
 
I also think you’re right about AJ. Even on images where everyone else is depicted with darker skin, she always seems to be the one people overwhelmingly see as caucasian. Or at least on the pictures I’ve seen.

Why thank you. I see their coat colours as their clothing colour in the human world, and so i see certain coats that go will against a dark skin colour. Although i do change it sometime, like for example, even though Octavia and Sombra both have dark coats, i see them as white (Octavia, because she seems to be British, and as someone from the UK, we can be as plae as ghosts sometimes XD. And as for Sombra, i would imagine his dark coat to be like black armour in the human world, as it would give him a more menacing appearance.)
 
I also see Sunset as having brown skin despite her coat, due to me thinking that ponies with osmthing sun related would be pretty tanned.
 
Yeah, i always wonder why AJ doesn’t seem to have a lot of images of her with black skin, compared to the rest of the M6. Although, i have a feeling if i requests art of a black AJ and posted it here, a few people would want my head on a stick.

A few perhaps. Still, we are all entitled to our own opinions on the matter, and if it was well done you might even win a few people over.
 
But then I’ve never been one to push the matter either. I prefer them in their pony colors, for the most part, and I think sometimes that the appeal of leaving them like that is that everyone is free to picture them exactly as they want.

I mean, when it comes to human headcanons, as long as the artist behind the pic isn’t an asshole or anything, then I see nothing wrong with making them different races or skin colours.
 
Like, I see Twilight as white, and one of my friends sees her as black, and we understand that it is just our opinions on what they look like. Although funnily enough, since I see AJ as black, I actually have a few frineds that seem to agree with me (one of my friends says she see’s the Apple family as African-American, while another one of my friends see’s AJ as being mixed race).

It’s interesting you know so many people who agree with you on that. I’d be curious to know if there’s any particular reason they do, or if it’s just a conclusion they arrived at independently.
 
And yes, as long as everyone’s nice about it, I don’t much care what nationality people want to represent the mane 6 as.

I think it just seems to be a coincidence. I just told them what my headcanons for them where, and they just told me what they see AJ as.
 
Exactly. One of my friends put it best, they said that since these are ponies, and we have no canon on what their human versions would look like, people are free to make ponies whatever they want as a human.
 
Although its kinda shame with my friend. She is a good artist, and knows how to draw humans, but she doesn’t want to make any human versions of any MLP characters, because she has them as different races and nationalities, and we all know the reactions that happen with those images…

Bit of a longer answer, I’m kind of a private person and I’ve always been wary when it comes to anything that requests personal or semi personal information online. I realize that’s probably a bit on the paranoid side, but I’ve seen too many stories of people getting harassed or tracked down in real life using social media and the like to really trust them too much.
