You could say that FIM was ahead of the curve on that before the idea of “strong female lead” became misconstrued and tainted by Hollywood

Days Gone By is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs I’ve ever heard. I was almost at the point having to hold back tears because it was such a beautiful and lovely song. And can be sung by many people with the same attitude and emotion. It’s the best song ever made by Daniel Ingram in my eyes.

Honestly it was like that before MLP, but most were in situations where becoming tough is the only way to survive. (Being chased by terrifying killer aliens and robots, getting executed if you don’t pretend to be a dude, or literally being a carnivorous dinosaur or kaiju moth.) Now it’s like tough female meaning female acting like male other than some exceptions like Powerpuff Girls. And honestly, original Disney princesses are actually stronger than remake versions if you think about it, despite the stereotype.

Cinderella is pretty strong compared to the remake one when she actually tries her best to escape after her stepmother locks her up while the remake just dances around waiting to be rescued. Maleficent turns into a more badass dragon instead of her crow doing it. And yeah, Mulan in the original actually has to learn to fight and overcome her obstacles instead of already being a perfect fighter and have good chi. (I hate it when they put chi in everything Chinese. Isn’t that kind of racist?) Snow White basically being a mother to the 7 dwarves, Ariel swimming all the way back to save Eric, Pocahontas standing up against her father and willing to die for John Smith, and Jasmine’s entire character. People kind of forget Disney always had good female characters, forgetting the details.

How many female Pokemon trainers? They have always been pretty strong just by training their Pokemon to the best of their abilities. That’s especially more prominent in the anime where they show that doing beauty contest can be challenging too. The anime also celebrates girly things and shows those can be as important as boyish things. Pokemon has always been progressive about gender role honestly, with Brock being a kind of mother figure and a lot of female characters being the fighters.

I think a lot of media that tries to be progressive or about female empowerment falls into the same trap as a lot of Christian media: they ignore the principles of good storytelling and just preach their message directly to the audience.

“Identity” tends to be the least interesting part of a character. Blitzø and Stolas are a same-sex couple, but that’s the least interesting part of their relationship. I like a lot of female characters, but I don’t just like them because “girl power”. I like Marge Gunderson because she’s smart, level-headed, and a good detective. I like Beth Dutton because she doesn’t take shit from anyone, but she’s only confrontational when she needs to be, and uses it to stand up for others.

You don’t announce what you’re doing. you just do it. A girl who sees Izzy welding in “Take Flight in The Marestream” might decide they want to try welding, or go into aerospace.

Honestly that’s the problem with all the progressive things they try to do. They always just focus on what they are instead of who they are. They focus so much on the message and statement they’re trying to convey they forgot a person has more than that going on, more than the “identity”.

“Hey look, we have this character who is this gender/race/sexuality. Isn’t that cool? Aren’t we inclusive?”
“Um sure, but what’s their traits? What’s their personalities? What do they like to do? What would they do and how would they react in these situations? Do they have different kind of interests?”
“Um… well, they’re this gender/race/sexuality. That’s who they are. That’s all we need to be progressive, right?”

Honestly it’s ironically more insulting for the people they’re trying to represent, that that’s all who they are and that nothing interesting can come from them. Instead of seeing these characters as characters, they see them as tools to push out propagandas. That’s ironically less “progressive” than they think.

Don’t forget how Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 kind of stole those aspects from most of them.
(Except Ariel and Mulan, they remained strong and the only 2 female sidekick AI from the first 2 main games, granted, the game was aimed at boys, but boys need not to think about girls like that)

I’ve always thought that with the movement to get more females into the various STEM fields, Izzy could be a nice symbol there.

Sigh Jazz is just so cute… shame I hate her so much… I hate how I get these thoughts of wanting to injure her…

People find either the Twilicorn drama or finale drama annoying, but the worst for me is always gonna be Starlight Glimmer drama. People won’t go on a day without talking shit about her and they always have to bring her up even if it has nothing to do with her. Just shut up about Starlight Glimmer. She is a reformed character now. She’s learned and improved, stop dwelling on her villain days.

Liking Jazz and listing her as a favourite was a huge mistake. Can we all forget that I ever implied I like her!? I don’t like her and I think it’s adding fuel to the fire

It happens to Starlight much more often than anyone. I mean Discord gets that too, including from myself, but he always has devoted defenders while Starlight seldom gets anything like that. It’s like the fandom just universally agrees shitting on Starlight is okay.
