@Megalobronia
I don’t think it’s the criticism part, some people just operate on a mix between “there are always two sides to a story, mine and the wrong one” and “dinner will have to wait,
someone is wrong on the internet!” I feel they’d act this way about anything, but maybe criticism is more likely to make them come out of the woodwork. Because something was found ‘wanting’ and ‘needs’ to be ‘corrected.’
There’s a lot of tyrants waiting to happen on the internet, I’ve found. and also people who ‘merely’ need to grow up, haha
Myself, I try not to be like that when I complain about criticize stuff. Again, results may vary. I like conversation but sadly I’m so negative and uninspired I don’t have much ‘feels good’ stuff to talk about. (Doesn’t help that there’s no general/positive discussion thread in the forums versus Unpopular Opinions plus Pony Venting…)

Now that you mention it, “strong female characters” do come off as the ‘classic’ male power fantasy, except the character’s female (and usually doesn’t have a top model on each arm).
It is nice that G4 shows that there’s nothing wrong with girls being feminine, masculine or a mix. When they have flaws, it’s never linked to being a woman/tomboy/etc’s thing. Maybe not quite the same on the other side of the gender fence though…

You’re right, these are all very good points. I still despise Tempest but that’s good insight.
I guess I was wrong when I said my issue on victims wasn’t linked to the villains. If it was like Kim Possible or Teen Titans, precisely, or even the Smurfs… worlds where harm is never permanent or even lasting. But there’s like a dissonance when the villains are welcomed into the fold, especially when they’re only ‘redeemed.’ Then it feels off and clashing to see the heroes be so chummy with them while their victims apparently don’t remember they even were victims.
About Misty, I’m not into G5 but she’s the one who’d make me interested in watching if I didn’t dislike everything else (save the movie). That said, my point wasn’t concern for the ‘important character/protagonist’ victim. See Fluttershy. My point was concern for the victims no one else cares about in the show (except for saving them from evil in the first place, thankfully… though a lot of that only came from Celestia ordering the Mane Six to confront the problem).
And yeah, Luna’s one of my favorite redeemed villains… because she’s actually redeemed. Or hell, even just actually just nice, see the lavender bit from A Royal Problem.
