The fandom responds best when things are authentic to the show, with “respectful” being a matter of personal taste. If the shows do something really touching, or just really good, then even the perverted side of the fandom will generally try to be more respectful. Case in point: when Sleepless in Ponyville aired, there were a few weeks where no one could bring themselves to draw ScootaDash art. And it took awhile for anyone to want to make porn of Pear Butter.
I also think enabling is better understood now. On the original /co/ threads, there actually was an effort to shame people for lewding the show. There are levels of weirdness, and when less weird people do something ironically, it enables the people one level down to do it unironically. Someone makes a PG-rated joke, in enables people who want to make 14+ jokes. Someone posts a screencap of a pony with bedroom eyes, and it enables someone to draw a pony in lingerie. Some people draw some porn for shits and giggles, and it unlocks a new fetish in people below that level. Repeat for a few years and you get the depths of depravity that this fandom has produced. When Lauren Faust said that ponies reproduce “the mammalian way”, she unwittingly enabled the production of clop, because hey, it’s authentic to the lore. I’m kind of surprised that the showrunners teased a potential incest ship with MarbleMac.
I think G5 is taking the character relationships a lot more seriously. Zipp and Pipp have a very authentic relationship with their mother. Queen Haven and Alphabittle feel like two adults that are in a relationship. And Misty and Alphabittle share a really serious scene in Father of the Bridlewood. So the idea of Zipp, Pipp and Misty becoming step-sisters feels realistic enough that shipping them crosses the line from “taboo” to “just plain gross”. Also doesn’t help that Misty is recovering from a pretty realistic portrayal of abuse.

It’s a narrative thing that reminds me of a certain incident involving Bluey. One of the animators drew a “cuck chair” in the parents’ bedroom. By firing the animator, the narrative goes from “Bluey has this unwholesome thing in it” to “A man lost his job for trying to tarnish Bluey‘s wholesome image”. I think it’s completely understandable for G5 fans to want to present themselves as “Not like the people who invented the Pony Jar”.

I’m…still uncertain of what you mean, but if you’re implying that normalizing insanely inappropriate stuff is cool because we eventually grow into adults, NO. For example, we should not be doing stuff like showing kids a Rainbow Dash toy in a jar of you-know-what because of the detrimental impressions that kind of stuff can make on their minds. I’ve always loathed legitimately prudish behavior, but I’m looking at some of the craziness we’re trying to make acceptable now combined with the “sins of the MLP fandom’s past” that are still continuing today and I’m finding myself agreeing with G5 fans wanting to distance themselves from things like extreme NSFW content.

While I get and understand why, incest shipping is a thing among the MLP fandom, in fact if we go by G5, I do see quite some Sunny X Argyle and Misty X Alphabittle art despite it being father/daughter so I find it odd that Misty X Zipp/Pipp is starting to be seen as a no no.

Love how I saw dreeze give a perfectly valid explanation on how it’s not just pegasi who can walk on clouds anymore, the reason being because of the Unity magic, and people were still insisting on assuming the writers just forgot and that G4’s lore is being tarnished. It’s like…I’m sorry, did you write G4’s lore? It irks me, the way this comes across as hubris, fans always acting like they know better.

Also, they’re likely ignoring G4’s lore because they need to pay royalties to use it thanks to fiendmaking, and Chris Cocks is too cheap to even order another season of TYT (unless he has ulterior motives…)

So after watching MYM’s pilot for the third time tonight, I saw proof that G5 has been keeping track of continuity from the outset. I HOPE I’m not the first person who’s noticed this…
Also, remember that scene where Dapple is eating food out of the trash? Watch TYT’s Friday Night Food Fight, which came way after this special, some time. :3 The people working on G5 “just forget” this stuff that virtually no one catches, SURE.

It was also made pretty clear that they were preventing Opaline from stealing the magic. Even with Opaline gone now, they still serve a purpose by making the magic even stronger.

The game was a Goldilocks moment for me. Maretime Bay was too short. Zephyr Heights was too long.
Or too repetitive, really. Save for the random (and very much welcome) Maretime Bay levels, I was stuck in the exact same town doing the exact same things over and over again. And that’s without the mandatory minigames getting repeated as you mentioned.
Speaking of repetition, it amused me that the Pipp Petals fan that triggers her money magic-collecting ability is always the same guy. Even Misty had different ponies. Little stalker haha.
Side quests not being voiced unlike everything else was also weird. Not enough time and/or money for full completion?
So all in all I prefer the first game. Short and sweet.

Didn’t get good until Sleepover, I actually cringed away from watching the episodes between it and Izzy Does It. Planned to watch more, but then Epic Games offered Dragon Age Inquisition for free…

Have noted this from the very beginning in MYM, and this was repeated in the Discord Arc in IDW comics where you could see that the magic seemed to have “gone berserk”, this produces several hypotheses that the magic may have disappeared because it had become unstable when pony tribes came out in conflict with each other. I guess it’s because the surroundings are “polluted” with negatively charged magic - and already very early in G4 there were fan theories that the ponies had to be nice to each other so that their magic wouldn’t affect the surroundings - and attract windigos who want to exterminate them.
I guess already back then Twilight may have had the Unity Crystals made to bring magic under control and we saw this to be the case. It wasn’t just to protect the magic from Opaline, who knowingly creates magical instability to make it stronger and easier to assimilate. She admitted this when she witnessed how the earth pony magic got out of control. This is a common thread throughout G5 that is partly buried by the newer writers who took over, when they realized that it will be too difficult to explain, although the Set Your Sail Arc in IDW has returned to this with the seven magical anchors surrounding the magic of the oceans .
Magical instability that is not necessarily only due to Opaline must be considered a fact as part of the G5 lore and it is possible to find evidence of this in the critters who had lost their magic along with the ponies and finally Discord himself, who has pony parts in his chimeric body. These critters with wings and horns were not seen in G4 because they probably did not exist then. If these had their own magic, they wouldn’t have lost magic along with the ponies. In the depths of the seas, the sea ponies had managed to retain their magic, but “something” had happened that the arc will explain in the future.
If this explanation of the ponies losing their magic through a voluntary act of sacrifice was fact, we could accept this. But that’s not right. We learned that it is possible to take apart the Unity Crystals because the ponies will not lose their magic right away. But these have to be reassembled every now and then to keep the magic “alive” like with a battery for an electric bike in the winter, when it has to be charged every three months. It explains what was seen in the Maretime Bay lighthouse before it was destroyed.
I was angry when information from a canceled book was released as MYM ends, as it was written in black and white that if the Unity Crystals are separated from each other for too long, the magic will disappear by itself. According to Izzy, the magic had just disappeared. Pop. Yes, pop. Then one had learned from the book in MYM chapter 2 that it was the guardians who were responsible for the Unity Crystals, probably after Twilight had disappeared and Equestria was still united. But the guardians began to forget what their mission was, and broke up with each other. A collective amnesia hit the ponies, which may have been magical because after Opaline removed all magical spells, ponies were seen to start remembering things related to magic in TYT 2.0.
Can only hope that the new writers rewrote the information about how the pony magic disappeared, although we still don’t know what happened after Spike and the dragons went into hibernation and what made Twilight leave Equestria, or how the world crumbled after her departure.

- Magic had to be regulated to prevent uncontrolled magic.
- We don’t know why Twilight Sparkle left Equestria.
- We don’t know what happened to Twilight in her fight against Opaline.
- We don’t know why the ponies “forgot”, especially about the Unity Crystals.
- We don’t know the full story of all the spells around Equestria.

We recently read in the IDW comics that the magic in the oceans had to be regulated to prevent catastrophic events. When the TYT episode about the supercharged moon was aired, no one understood how it happened, but the celestial bodies move by themselves. This could be proof that the magical world had been fundamentally changed - so much so, that much of the G4 lore is no longer valid.
All this rests on one fact; a need for regulation of magic.

It was already proven that the magical world had been fundamentally changed long before TYT’s Moon Festival aired. Remember this line from Twilight’s recorded message in MYM’s Growing Pains?
“Magic is alive. Always changing. Growing stronger.”
And yes, much of the G4 lore is no longer valid. Earth ponies couldn’t magically create plants back then and now they can. Therefore, there are things in G4’s lore that are now outdated. What many people like to point at and call “inconsistencies” are actually just products of the magic in Equestria evolving.

Why? Why is it bad that the magic in Equestria evolving has now allowed earth ponies and unicorns to walk on clouds without a spell? Because that’s not what it was like back in Season 1 of FiM? That’s your only reason for not accepting a simple explanation for why things have now been made easier for the ponies of Equestria?

And even if they rebooted it, I suspect they wouldn’t go the New Era route which is not a bad thing. But still. Anyway it’s too late for them to start over from a clean slate. They are starting over, by painting over a completed work.
