That’s what I find frustrating about that Oliver Anthony song as well. The writing is solid in some areas, but it’s inconsistent and the man himself doesn’t have the best voice

You pretty much mentioned all of them, but if I had to make another wager, maybe Boston? Also, I like The Moody Blues 80’s stuff, it’s guilty pleasure material for me

I’ll admit, “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” is a massive guilty pleasure for me. Still not as great as their ‘60s-70s stuff, but I’ve listened to it more times than I probably should, heh.

I’d be willing to forgive the voice, because the dude is clearly singing with passion and a lot of the great folk singers—Guthrie, Dylan, etc.—didn’t have the best voices in the world either. But it’s the voice combined with the lyrics, which are okay in the first verse but quickly devolve once he starts bringing up conspiracy theory BS and complaining about people on welfare. So close, and yet so far away.

I’ve been intending to move on to the Moody Blues’ 80s albums eentually.
Actually, I heard their 2003 Christmas album a few years ago, which is pretty good.
They really haven’t done anything solid since the early 70s, but thank goodness it’s not all “suckiness” if you look in the right places

I Know You’re Out There Somewhere is indeed a guilty pleasure even though it sounds like if Starship made their own Every Breath You Take

I guess I can’t complain since a few weeks ago, we had Jason Aldean make a song complaining about the city riots and how they’re gonna take away his guns and all that dumb right wing crap and it went to number one so going from that to Oliver Anthony Music feels like a massive leap forward. I’ll take a passionate song with a flawed execution over some pandering schlock.

I personally hated the single version. Too bad it’s the only version available in the States (Capitol apparently doesn’t have the rights to it).

I was shocked when I first saw that. He appears to have apologized, though. Guess he’s going to change his Evil Ways.

The rocker I’m more shocked and saddened by is Alice Cooper. That one hurts. Especially since I saw him in concert with Halestorm back in 2019. It was a fantastic concert, a really fun experience, and now I can’t think of that concert without thinking I was cheering for a transphobe.

We’re lucky we still have Paul McCartney and Elton John. Two of the few rock legends who still have cross-generational appeal (largely due to all the traditions they broke when they emerged) and aren’t assholes (for the most part).

Yeah it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. I remember listening to it a lot when I was young.

What a fantastic album. AFAIK the only album where every song, including the deep cuts, gets airplay. (I’ve legitimately heard every song from this album on the radio.)

not entirely sure this topic fits the thread but i will say that i don’t think Alice Copper is completely wrong here & neither is Dee or Paul. i’m clearly no expert on the subject & some things are exaggerated but no more exaggerated than what that article’s making him out to be. Loudwire also reported on this & managed to do so without using any talking points of their own & there’s even some stuff that was left out.
& i’m sorry but “transphobe” doesn’t really mean anything anymore. plus, Alice is not a hateful man (nor Dee or Paul) that we’re being led to believe, i don’t think so, anyway.
