I was voted “most artistic” out of my graduating class in high school, but I don’t think this is what they had in mind
I am a “most artistic” (whatever the bleep that means) out of 70

Drawing wise, 1 out of 10. I am downright horrible. The only thing I can draw are the weird eyes like Celestia and Luna have. That’s it.
Vector art wise, simple shapes, I’m more like a 5 out of 10. I can get a good idea with a reference and replicate the image with some ease. It’s not a 100% perfect replication, but it’s better than what I can draw.

Yo, it’s possible to heavily reference anatomical charts and such without actually copying them – just reference the proportions and locations of bones/muscles and use that to impose order on your pose/gesture drawing.
though I suppose this does require some strong visual reasoning skills, practice with perspective, a sense of what to distort, or simplify, or leave out, etc
but someone with these skills would be able to make reasonably competent original drawings even of creatures that were completely alien to them, without memorizing the anatomy, so long as they had some references (though perhaps they wouldn’t be as good as someone who had developed an intuitive sense for what the creature in question looks like, including variations between individuals, how they express themselves, how they react to things, etc)
I like to keep a skeletal diagram or somesuch out while I’m drawing – it’s helpful even if the pose, angle, perspective, etc are all completely different
@ArkyNoid
note to self: work harder at signaling “I’m available and easy to communicate with” (even if in actuality it’s debatable, hahaha)

I can’t draw with a pencil.
It looks stupid but if I don’t draw with a pencil, I can’t erase it.
So, I instead use colored pencils.

I normally only post that kind of drawing to 4chan, where everything is shit anyways…
…though at one point I had a tumblr blog full of things like that
it ended up having more followers than my actual art blog, FFFFFFFFFFFFFF
(erm, the one that’s under my SFW and lower-percentage-of-pony name, anyway)

when im in that state of mind all care for what i actually draw goes out the window. And i just lay down the crappiest stupidest thing I can think of just to laugh at it. (an it mostly ends up here hee hee)and because I know it’s crappy art that im outputing i don’t expect people to like it.Infact i get more upset when people do.

I know how you feel there. Partly why I started drawing pone is because I actually can’t afford commissions. I wish I was good enough to do commissions. I could use the small amount of income. lol
Extremely low. I can actually prove it with the down vote scores most of my drawings got. Experiment gone way wrong I might say.And that’s why at times I prefer to commission my ideas using the skill of people with the gift. But the artists I highly admire seem so hard to communicate with and/or busy so I try myself and fall on my ass.Working on it…

The thing is is there is a certain type of art I want to do. I honestly don’t care much about giving my characters backstories or any consistency to be honest. So the actually aesthetic work is the only thing really there.

Don’t beat up yourself.Imma tell you a story. A few years ago, I drew some sketches on my notebook. The drawings were terrible and I really wished I could’ve drawn better. They even had notes to explain any characters I’ve made. Then, one of my friends saw my drawings and notes. He loved it. He loved it so much that he told everyone else. And then it continued. They told me that my drawings weren’t cool, but the ideas I had behind them were. They even asked me to make characters based on them. Even drew it for them. The words they gave me encouraged me a whole lot. Currently, my drawings is still shit, but I still try. My skills at drawing is obviously suckish but that doesn’t mean I can’t make something out of it.This little project of mine, starting from a handful of characters and encouragement of my friends… has transformed into an entire world of diverse characters, history, locations and items.I’m still making it. Though I can’t draw, I keep it all in my mind, wishing one day, maybe I can make it on a piece of paper. This started 7 years ago.

Urgh, This is starting to turn into a shit-storm that will likely engulf my little skiff. so I’m going to sail away from this thread and dock up somewhere with easier waters. Good luck, I guess and stuff.

I want to work on getting better…but I need to be able to release everything I do. If I am looking at other pictures and drawing them…that makes it illegal to release partly. And along with that, my school like to ruin my downtime as much as possible. They REALLY do not like me having any downtime.
And about drawing favorite album covers, do my own count? lol Also I want to experiment with different types of anatomy and not just stick to one. And also as I have found out, for the certain “thing” I usually draw…I have found correct pony anatomy to be pretty much useless unless I want to ripoff the same pose over and over again.
http://thephobiapony.deviantart.com/art/Interrobang-x-Plum-Pepper-blushes-deep-red-515851920?q=gallery%3AThePhobiaPony&qo=0 This was the latest digital thing I did…though the anatomy was kinda meant to be shit here lol. http://thephobiapony.deviantart.com/gallery/ I have more junk in here that is digital as well.
Just fucking great…only been working on that since I started a year and a half ago and it is still fucking broken. How about I just copy others work and call it mine? Might as well, I’m ready to give up…and I mean on everything, not just this.Look man, I stopped doing anything on my lunch breaks but drawing for two years to get where I am today and I still suck… A lot. So much so that Garry Glissmeyer found it important enough to elaborate how how poorly rendered my artistic scribblings actually were. but I degrees, honestly if you want to draw well you have to keep at it. I have no idea why you say that you would get your ass handed to you if you where drawing at school, but if it’s because you want to draw ponies involved in “sensual predicaments” then you should try drawing something different while in school like your surroundings, your favorite album covers, plane crashes, or even Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Honestly, just because you aren’t great now doesn’t mean that you will never be. It just means that you have a ways to go. Just because I give you a two doesn’t mean that you are only worth a two.
