Honestly I think it makes her a lot more unsettling if we just don’t know the reason, if any, why she’s so screwed up in the head. A kid at that age who managed to be such a threat to Equestria that the four princesses had no qualms about throwing her into hell and didn’t even bother to try to reform her? That alone implies that, as a kid, she’s as serious of a threat as Tirek, Sombra, and Nightmare Moon, and more unstable than Starlight, Discord, and Queen Chrysalis are, and we DON’T KNOW HOW OR WHY? That’s creepy :D

Starlight had the most idiotic motivation and backstory ever, and Cozy didn’t even had THAT.

I like to knack on Chrysalis for the season 6 finale… but for Cozy Glow, them not showing anything is almost essential methinks.

I think there’s a sense of wonder that giving a backstory to a character completely diminishes. Sometimes it’s worth it, like I think Queen Chrysalis would be a stronger character if she was given a backstory, but characters like Sombra I think would lose a lot of his weight as a character if given one. Starlight 100% didn’t need a backstory; her redemption would have been like a thousand times stronger if we didn’t actually know the events that twisted her world view so much. I think there’s real definite value to that sense of wonder fans are left with when they’re only given subtle hints to why a character is the way they are :D

I mean, you wouldn’t find villains like say, Frieza, Lord Dominator, or HIM compelling because of their backstories, would you?
 
Because they don’t have backstories.

For quite a while I think. We have a genuinely evil major-league pony villain who they’ve not given a last-minute sob story excuse to? We’re going to milk this one for all it’s worth :D

A sense of wonder is fine and all, but it’s still not an excuse for lazy and uncaring planning. Otherwise Discovery could air 23 minutes of nothing but a blank screen and ask you to use your sense of wonder to imagine a wonderful pony adventure episode.
 
Take for example a character like Donald Duck- the guy has no detailed “canon” backstory but Disney supplied enough info about him, his family and his childhood to let everyone understand why he’s a little ball of rage and impulsiveness: he’s chronically unlucky, receives little respect from his family and relatives, has an annoying cousin who receives for free everything he can’t get and his two best friends are an unbearable goody two shoes mouse and a mentally slow manchild dog-whatever-the-hell-he-is.  
Only 3 lines of text and you already can understand and accept why that duck is so pissed off and ready to explode anytime. Imagine what 3 lines of text could have done for Cozy.

Althought I’ll be making social service so yeah, Ii’m still kinda off.
 
The funniest part is, I don’t like Cozy, but it makes me feel drained instead of rageful, like if I’m in a “good ridance” position rather than “give her backstory” or “she didn’t did anything bad” or anything. I’m just……off with her.

More like you taking a minor thing, focusing too hard on it and then exaggerating it as if it’s a problem.
 
Her motivation is power. That’s all you really need.

I didn’t say it did, but I’d argue that Cozy not having a backstory or motives makes her more interesting, because for one there’s no good backstory but also no flawed reasoning.  
For all we know she’s evil for the hell of it and has no motivation.
