Interesting. And, it’s terribly sad that he won’t be returning. He was one of my favorite writers!

Then again, it’s extremely unusual for a show centered around toys to go on for 8 freaking seasons. I think a change of writing staff is inevitable after such a long time. Per M.A. Larson himself, season 3 was indeed originally intended to the be the last one. So, to have it even last 8 seasons is something of an accomplishment.

Totally coonfirmed that he will never return, but at least he will appear in the future with a episode that he didn’t even write

Q: “What is your future with My Little Pony and being a successful author? Do you like to see yourself writing for the show, or has that part sort of moved on?”

A: “I would happily have continued on writing for the show, but it’s not the same as it used to be. Things have changed on the show. There’s an episode coming up that has my name on it, but I didn’t really write it; wasn’t my idea. It’s coming up, but it’s not really my episode.”

Of the first 6 episodes I’ve seen of Season 7, I’ve enjoyed all 6. They’ve all managed to leave a smile on my face, and every single one made me actually laugh out loud, which is what got me into the show.

Dreading Season 9
Old writers leaving and being replaced with newbie hacks. The exact same thing that happened with SpongeBob SquarePants.

A new main character (Starlight) being shoehorned into the cast. The exact same thing that happened with Fairly OddParents.

Let’s face it guys. The show is going through seasonal rot, and needs to end before it gets even worse than it already is.

I agree, and I don’t think Starlight started doing that as a filly either I’m just saying that’s all it took and she didn’t even try anything else. Like I said it’s opinions not facts.
Supes

@Pagan
Yeah, most of that is interpretation or opinions and we’re just going to disagree, but one thing I wanna bring up is “she just instantly turns to kidnapping and brainwashing”, I doubt she started doing that as a little filly XD She probably had a lengthy enough period to stew in her issues and learn magic before she started the village and all that stuff. Also, with Discord, I mainly mean after his betrayal in season 4’s finale. I don’t think he really deserved to be forgiven after that, but they didn’t even bring it up.

@Supes
Starlight has many problems, her backstory amounted to her friend went to school and she couldn’t be bothered to contact him or even try to make another she just instantly turns to kidnapping and brainwashing, in the season 5 finale she’s forgiven instantly that not even Discord got at least the others still felt wary of him and didn’t trust him besides Fluttershy to the point they wanted to seal him away again but I agree him and the other villains were forgiven too quickly, but lets look at Trixie her only crime was telling some ponies she defeated something most ponies had never heard of and she got her home vandalized and nearly lost her entire career as a show pony over it, Starlight attacked the main 6 and painfully ripped off their CM’s, kidnapped them and imprisoned them, tried to brainwash them, then tried kill some ponies, after that she nearly trapped Twilight in multiple timelines she would never be able to escape from and what does Starlight get? A free room in the castle new friends and spot as Twilights protégé, so tell a lie about beating a big bear get your home vandalized and nearly lose your job, commit treason and attempt at murder get a place in a castle and be forgiven and loved by everyone, because that makes sense.

Then when we see her in the show after her reform she does next to nothing besides stand around and mope, she makes the same mistakes over over again about using magic but then never learns from them and then the finale says her mistakes aren’t mistakes as it’s magic that saves the day thus undoing what little development she had gotten throughout season 6, whenever she’s in an episode it’s Twilight or Trixie that does the interactions and most of the talking while Starlight is just kind of there, she’s as boring as cardboard but hey at least she knows magic that’s pretty much her entire character.

But this is all my personal feelings towards her I’m sure others see her differently and this is why I say just saying a character is bad is not a fact but an opinion, as Starlights blandness is my opinion it’s not a fact, so you can say what you want about Chrysalis or any other character for that matter it doesn’t mean you’re factually correct it just means you have different tastes.

@Background Pony #172D
You can think whatever you want but Chrysalis was shown telling her subjects to feed during the attack, she gave them free reign of Canterlot she was indeed fulfilling a need of her kind, taking over and gaining power from it is a byproduct of that action and she wants it, kill two birds with one stone.

The changelings have never been shown having peace with anyone they are hunters it’s all they’ve ever known walking into canterlot and asking to feed off the populace would likely have ended poorly for them and it would tip off their prey that an attack was imminent and would ruin any kind of element of surprise. The ponies thought it was one lone changeling in canterlot not their leader or that their was an army waiting outside had they tried asking for it they would have been denied and it would tip them off of the scale of the attack. I can’t blame the changelings for not taking such a huge risk when their food source is on the line.

Chrysalis was never shown harming her subjects besides Thorax who was a traitor and literally brought the god of chaos to their home and tried to help in the destruction of the one thing that kept their kingdom safe as well release their food source, Thorax became an enemy of the hive not just an outcast it makes sense Chrysalis would treat him as such, the others never shown being harmed or even yelled at by her and she was present during their births and is shown interacting with the grubs, that is a motherly thing to do, for all we know she laid those eggs and given she’s the queen and a bug horse it’s very likely they are in fact her children. She can’t be a tyrant if she does what they all believe is best for them and isn’t harming them.

And before someone starts screaming about the transformation stuff, we never saw any changelings look like that and it’s very unlikely any of them knew that could happen if they did Chrysalis likely would have tried to have it happen to her and cure herself of hunger, meaning they were doing what they have always known and worked for them which was hiding and taking love from others. The new forms are also never explained and is brought on by a magic deus ex machina explosion for no explained reason besides Thorax got some love but the other changelings had love and never did that and the idea they never tried to feed on each others love which is apparently all it takes never happened is completely unbelievable.

In short Chrysalis was a more in depth villain, she had a better motive than any other villain, she was helping her kind and she was interesting, the season finale pulled a bunch of stuff out of thin air ignored it’s own ideas and through out their own plot devices and solved everything with BS magic bomb, again. As well as replace Chrysalis with a character we saw a total of 2 times in the show who got practically no development and who’s entire purpose was to be a replacement. Twilight at least got three years of development before her change Thorax got 2 appearances worth.
Supes

I could never take Chrysalis seriously because of how uimaginably terrible she was at impersonating Cadance (the fact that surrounding ponies were stupid enough to get fooled doesn’t excuse it). She never felt intimidating due to how terrible an actress she was.

@Pagan
@Evowizard25
That’s your single opinion many disagree with you she was intimidating and interesting, the same way you think Starlight is somehow interesting it’s just your opinion not a fact as I can easily explain why she’s not and why she’s a terrible character but she still has fans who think otherwise it comes down to personal taste, so your opinion does not equal fact.

I bet your explanation would amount to pretty much “well, I didn’t find her interesting, so it’s a fact that she’s not interesting, but you can have your little opinion anyway”. Maybe some additional moaning about how she was forgiven too easily, conveniently forgetting Discord, Luna, Sunset Shimmer, even Diamond Tiara.

@Pagan
So saying Chrysalis’s depiction has always been consistent with that of a power-hungry dictator is “one person’s opinion” (and apparently I’m the only one in the entire fandom with that opinion) but saying in ACW she’s Mommy Chrysalis just trying to provide for her swarm is “what happens on screen”? And saying the show wouldn’t use grey-vs-grey morality, depicting the Mane 6 as no more morally right as their opponent(s), is equivalent to saying they wouldn’t have any “deeper themes or in depth characters”? Yeah, I don’t think this is going to go anywhere…

@Background Pony #55AE
If you think Chrysalis was really evil in ACW, what changed in her portrayal in the S6 finale to ruin her character?

Taking control gives the changelings free reign to feed for as long as they want, what did you seriously think they were going to show up eat some love then just leave? Of course not they were going to take over and keep their food source and gain a safe point outside of their hive.
Evowizard25

@Pagan
Well the thing is with that is that Chrysalis used that more as an excuse then a reason. The way Chrysalis conducted the campaign and acted, it was an obvious ploy for more power for herself then anything. As well, no. Her scenes were few and rather boring. I never really got a sense of intimidation or really found myself caring.

It’s ironic since the very same voice actress plays a very similar character in concept: Roodaka. The villain of the third bionicle film: Web of Shadows. Now that was a villain. Intimidating, intelligent, and would go out of her way to even allow herself to die for her cause.

@Supes
She was an interesting presence on screen and she had the best motive in that she had one that actually made sense, Discords was it’s just fun, Tirek’s was I’m stronger, Sombra’s was… crystals, Starlight’s was friend went to school.

Chrysalis’s was we are hungry and our only food source comes from living beings, hers at least has some understanding to it.
Supes

@Supes
Couldn’t get very deep in like two episodes.

That’s absolutely fair. I do think if they wanted to they could’ve given her more characterization, but her debut two-parter was amazing anyway and possibly still one of my favorite episodes of the show. I’m just saying that claiming she was as deep as some fans make her in fanfics and headcanon would be a tad ridiculous. But I don’t enjoy her character any less for it.
