The selling of Boulder Media happened well after Make Your Mark began production. It’s also cheaper to outsource content as opposed to running an in-house studio.

If Boulder Media had produced MYM it would likely be about the same, just with a few added details(like Jazz actually having visible ears). The show was always gonna have a smaller budget regardless.

Honestly, if there was a downgrade in the models from ANG to MYM, I couldn’t tell (with the obvious exception of Izzy’s mane). The motion (especially early on) and crowd population, on the other hand…

The downgraded animation in Chapter 1 and the low crowd population were definitely more noticeable, but I never cared about the latter because I’ve always been well-aware of the limited assets CGI shows often have because of budget constraints.

They definitely found their grove and it looked pretty good by the end, though I feel they never quite perfected the color grading on some characters.

Speaking of color grading I remember when Hitch was overly yellow for a few chapters. Not to mention it looked like Sunny always had some kind of eyeshadow on.

I recall someone from the production team saying they used Autodesk Maya for MYM, which is why everything looks off. When Atomic were given the assets from Boulder, they had to simplify rigs, textures, and other aspects because they were too complex for their computers to handle, otherwise things would have not worked properly or even crash the software. Maya does have the capability of rendering realistic models, but because of the redoing of those assets, they caused production delays, as you mentioned. I have heard crunch time may have also been a factor.

Iirc someone from the team said it was done on purpose because of her hair causing obvious clipping issues with her ears. The reason why when her ears do appear is the use of camera angles.

MYM’s animation was done with Autodesk Maya? Well, that’s probably another reason why the series was canceled. Hasbro probably didn’t want to bother looking for other softwares after older versions of Maya stopped receiving support. It would cost too much money for them.

That’s why certain scenes throughout MYM feel small and lack big crowds, compared to massive scenes like in ANG. And with the possible fact of time constraints, the team probably had to produce something quicker in time to meet the deadlines because of possible crunch time. It’s common for a follow-up series of a movie to not appear as good as the associated film. For MYM’s case it really watered down and took a lot of time to get things working to meet the compatibility for Maya

I will give kudos to MYM’s production team as they worked very hard to make things work normally. You can even see over each chapter the quality improves, but alas, the ending of it killed of its future potential

She’s in the shadows in her first appearance for dramatic effect. The reason the animation isn’t so good in Chapter 1 is simply because the animators on the team actively working on MYM then were not as experienced with 3D animation as the animators on the team actively working on it later. That’s all.

…What? There are starting to be far too many things that have gone wrong due to outside interference not only in MLP, but also elsewhere in the Hasbro brands. If it weren’t for all the direct interference, things would have gone very differently.

The last few episodes make me wish the show was still going.
It has begun to dawn on Hasbro that the situation surrounding G5 has been attracting a lot of attention and interest, as all these leaked episodes from TYT 2.0 have attracted a lot of viewers and a lot of online activity that did not put them in a good spotlight. There are so many revelations that have made it very clear that poor management was the main problem surrounding the development of G5, which is by no means finished. Just… parked.
Most leaked TYT episodes did not contain much in-depth lore, but some of these were interesting like with S2 ep. 30 which showed us what it was like at the beginning of the magic-free era.
I would assume that it was turbulent when the magic disappeared, we know that there had been no open conflict between the ponies, as the guardians of the Unity Crystals “forgot” their duty to assemble the crystals so that they would continue to have magic. It was not said what happened after the magic disappeared, but it would not be surprising if the ponies accused each other of what happened. It only makes the rifts between them much deeper, and outsiders like these “hoppalottas” who were vulnerable. What happened to them can be used as an explanation for why the others like griffins and changelings have disappeared, while the ponies could not remember when Sunny and her friends ensured the return of the magic.
But the scene with the pegasi soldiers is interesting, because those who looked at them with discomfort were also pegasi. Were there internal power struggles that saw the rise of the pegasi kingdom? Because after the magic disappeared, the pegasi crystal was used as a symbol of royal rule for queens who deceived their people by tricking them into thinking they still had magic that allowed them to fly. So when Princess Twilight disappeared - and when the magic later disappeared, there probably wasn’t a pegasi monarchy back then.
There probably was a lot going on back then, but I don’t think the three tribes were at open war with each other, as they isolated themselves from each other and became preoccupied with internal unrest in their own homes. This would have changed the background of the ANF movie if there was war between the ponies, but it didn’t happen. Instead, they may have driven all non-ponies away from them, and it is possible, as the scenes may suggest, that this was not remembered by the ponies themselves.
Perhaps this is new evidence of collective amnesia some 80 to 100 years before the ANG movie. Then it could be possible that the loss of magic and the dissolution of Equestria when the great separation happened was a deliberate act by an unknown party who could manipulate the ponies and made them forget afterwards.
This episode gives me Cozy Glow vibes because it’s possible that the monarchy was imposed on the pegasi by powerful individuals who didn’t hesitate to use force.

I’ll still assume it’s done unless proven otherwise. False hope is a highly damaging feeling. But yeah, G5 being suspended holds a lot of water, but the same mismanagement that got it suspended, going by that scenario, could prevent it coming back too.
