You know what? I like both “Princess Spike” and “ELTSD”. They’re both car crashes featuring two of my favorite characters, cheerfully careening towards the edge of the cliff while I cry and laugh in equal parts sympathy and hilarity.
 
They both involve castles being flooded at the end too.

That may well be the single most unpopular opinion in the thread– nice work.
 
My only real problem with ELTSD is scheduling; I think it would have worked far better as one of the first episodes in Season 6, as Starlight really should have learned by that point not to hare off on a domineering tangent. It’s hardly a rare issue, though, since the same can be said of a lot of episodes. Princess Spike still feels… mean-spirited to me in a way that ELTSD doesn’t, though; I can definitely see where they were going with it, Spike is a perfect subject for a comedy of errors built around too much authority all at once, I just don’t think the finished product ended up there because it came across like the universe itself was dumping on Spike instead of just the specific circumstances.

And I’m sure the only reason we have not heard her talk is because a lot of people would get annoyed that Nowacking (or however you spell her name) didn’t voice her.

Exactly, yes– I was surprised by how mature Starlight seemed in NSP compared to The Crystalling, it really felt like she was going to breeze through the whole pony despot reformation thing super quick; having her regress so hard so easily in ELTSD just screamed EPISODIC CONTINUITY ERROR to me, to the point that I expected a tweet from Big Jim explaining that it had been moved around for some reason.

Ordinarily I’d go with “they’re on record as saying they don’t pay that much attention to the fandom”, but something about that particular feature gives off Corporate Meddling Waves, like maybe Vogel– who actually does kindasorta pay attention to the fandom what with being a huge horse nerd himself– sent a note to DHX when he was still a VP that there was already a nearly universally accepted fan voice for the character so they should maybe have her not speak.
 
I also don’t think Vinyl is actually mute in-universe, she just saves it up for the club.

Oh come on now– as far as I know Jessi Nowack isn’t also dating a storyboarder on the show, so 4chan wouldn’t even have an incentive to start making up dumb shit about her.

I think there’s a bit of context there as well. Spike had already taken too much abuse, so seeing more brought back bad memories. Starlight on the other hand was already rather unsympathetic, so it was easier to watch her screw up.
