Possibly, but I just remember lots of people being super pissed about that character and how that issue ended.

That’s a clear example of how not to do a villain reformation. It was the one thing that killed the quality of the comic even.
Hell after that point you brought up with how similar Twilight and Starlight really are when it comes to willingly using brainwashing spells, I’m more stoked than ever to see how they make the two interact in the finale and S6.

To the show’s credit, though, the “bully episode” is one of those plot lines that nobody seems to be able to do.

OK so it might be good then because by the looks of it i already hate the premise its rarely if ever done well and I also don’t like the implications that come with that sonic rainboom event. It’s going to be just as contrived as when MMC implied that Ponyville would be an utter disaster without the Mane 6.

It wasn’t well thought out.
One fan-explanation is that that’s what Rare thinks it means.
Which isn’t giving her much credit, to be honest.

I’m still doubtful they’d be able to reform a character* like Starlight Glimmer without it feeling forced and contrived.
*I am not including my headcanon as part of the equation, either. Honestly, I dunno’ what I was thinking when I posted that. Consider it expunged.

Except that she was there when Dash was telling everyone about her performing the Sonic Rainboom, which if it hadn’t been for that (and if Dash had earned her talent as a weather pony) none of the rest of the mane 6 would have gained their cutie marks. Whoops.
@Jarkes
Or maybe it was just a bad episode? (shrugs)
@Crystal Neighybánya
Agreed. Again. Actually, didn’t we already have this conversation like five times?

I think that might be a mix of the usual fear mongering whenever something big is going to happen in the show, and people making Glimmer out to be literally Hitler levels of evil.

Speaking of which, I’m sick of the “atleast Glimmer’s not Sombra!” argument. Not being Sombra doesn’t make what she did any better or any less terrible or make her any more redeemable. I can’t help but wonder if this arguments would be reversed if Sombra were a “smexy” evil Queen ala. Chrysalis (another baddie who seems to get off fairly easy) and Glimmer were a stallion; one of the biggest reasons people seem so willing to be lenient with Glimmer is that they think she’s “cute” or - dare I say it - clopable.

We keep having it because people keep insisting “Glimmerdemption” is going to happen.
@soundtea
By pony standards, she’s pretty damn evil and the closest thing ponykind’s ever had to a totalitarian dictator aside from Sombra. Plus, we still don’t know just what she’s got in store for the finale.

Yes, by all means, let’s discuss the nature of her crime.I suspect that some of us, being humans, don’t think much of the Unmarking, simply because our species has no such marks to lose. It’s all too easy for us to underestimate the importance of what she took.A cutie mark is a pony’s identity, an outward manifestation of who they are inside. A pony must discover their true self to earn their mark… And we’ve seen that when the mark is tampered with, the pony is changed on a fundamental level, and to their detriment in all known cases.As such, the Unmarking would have to be regarded as, if you’ll forgive my word choice, a violation. To perform it even on willing victims is unconscionable, but when she used it as a weapon, when she ripped away the marks of six mares purely as a means of inflicting harm, as of that moment she was different from the likes of Chrysalis, Simbra, or Tirek only in statistical terms.To put such a mare to death may be a mercy she does not deserve.
A “regular pony” who pretty much rips important chunks of other ponies’ souls out of their bodies, and then forces them into echo-chambers that eventually drive them insane, and soon slaves to her whims.And she thinks this is the way all ponies should live, and the only means of attaining true happiness and friendships among others.

Glimmer is scarier than Sombra imo. She makes Sombra seem like a Care Bears villain by comparison.
That said, however, I think that any good artist can make even the most unlikable characters seem cloppable.

Glimmer is scarier because she legitimately believes she is doing good, and thus is able to justify whatever horrible, inhuman action she does with “I’m doing it in the name of equality!”

Now think about Twilight if she actually went with that reforming spell.
“I’m doing it in the name of Harmony!”
They really aren’t that different.
