Season 9 Discussion Thread [NO SPOILERS, DF airings only]

New episode was good, liked all the new characters even if the parents are far from being good parents. I thought it was a nice scene where they made a last ditch attempt to persuade the parents, with all the ponies the CMC had helped previously, including ones you wouldn’t have expected to see again like Tender Taps and Feather Bangs.
 
A good send off for the CMC (if that’s what it is).
 

Did everyone forgot that each season we get at least 2 CMC episodes?  
Which means that this is not the last one.
 
Besides, this one was more “Scotaloo” episode than CMC one.

Eh, I’d say that this is as much of CMC episode as “Forever Filly”. It’s mainly about one of them, with others being there just to help.  
Another relation between those, would be that everyone besides the main character suggest ideas to solve the issue that are incorrect, untill the main character (Sweetie belle/Scotaloo) come and thier idea works.
 
So I’d assume that this was “Scootaloo” episode (since we didn’t have one since Parental Glideance) just like Forever Filly was Sweetie Belle’s episode.
 
So we still have one episode dedicated to CMC as a whole left.
 
Altough, it would be hard for them to top it with a better name than this one had.

Not so sure School Raze counts as a CMC episode. They do all appear, but not with any significant role. Also, S7 had 3: Forever Filly, Campfire Tales, and Marks & Recreation.

If i didn’t know they were lesbians before, i wouldn’t have noticed either. This only means that people are freaking out over nothing.

I count something as “CMC episode” only when story talks mainly about CMC only. So I don’t concider Campfire Tales as a “CMC episode” as it’s more about the legendary Characters, with CMC just being around there, doing mainly nothing.
 
But yea, I still expect there to be at least one more episode for CMC. Tough, to be honest, I wish that they would make “The Cursaders of the Lost Mark” right now, instead of 4 seasons ago. It would make yesterday’s episode more powerfull (CMC has to split before getting thier cutie marks) and the timing would be much more “correct”, since cutie marks are kind of thier Endgame.
 
Meh, I generally think that MLP should end after season 5, since it was near perfect ending to the show as a whole.

If many of the post-CM episodes happened without the cutie marks, it would make them getting them now more meaningful. Except Fault in our Marks, which only works with them.

Exactly. Ever since they recived thier cutie marks, I felt like they got much more boring. This is kinda what happens when you give a character a goal that they achive half way through the story.
 
Also, I do not understand why would they got THIER cutie marks, at the end of what essentially was Diamond Tiara episode. I wish they would do this diffrently

I mean, the first was absolute snorefest, so no wonders you could forgot.
 
And “Marks For Effort” is another one of those “YES WE GET IT! COZY IS THE VILLIAN OF THE SEASON! STOP PRETENDING ALREADY!” which made it suck even more.

I don’t really think “Is Cozy evil?” is the source of the suspense since, yes, it’s so obvious that she’s off; too obvious, even, for its obviousness to not be intentional. The real question was, “What is her endgame?”

I liked the orphan Scootaloo concept but the episode was absolutely amazing and really emotional so I don’t mind it being crushed.  
The lesbian aunts were really subtle, I bet if there hadn’t been announcements of them on Twitter etc there would not have been a huge debate on them at all :D
 
I wonder who bought the house and where the aunts intend to live when they move to Ponyville… maybe the parents will cancel the sale if it’s still possible and the aunts move in there?
 
The Scootaloo moving away fears: This REALLY reminded me of one of DWK’s recaps, the On Your Marks one  
that 1 minute or so skit of Apple Blooms psychotic depression because of the CMC moving apart was so fitting here

I mean, the real question is “what was her bloody motif?” because whatever blunder we were fed in “School Raze” made absolutely no sense what-so-ever.
 
If what she said was her actual belief, then it makes her to be the absolute dumbest character in the show.

Meh, Watching CMC was entertaining to some degree, but I’m not gonna rewatch those episodes anytime soon

I think Cozy’s motivation is a meta commentary on how The Power of Friendship has been portrayed throughout the show. It’s founded empires, and defeated gods and monsters. Why wouldn’t someone interpret it as a literal power to be harnessed?

Ehh… I’d buy it if not for the idea on how the magic of friendship is portrayed in the universe. Especially with M6’s diary being public, I really don’t understand how anyone could misrepresent friendship this way. Seasons 1-3? Maybe then it would fit. But not at season 8, where we had it explained alot of times, that this “magic” isn’t raw power.
 
Also, am I the only one who wonders How the fuck did Cozy Glow captured Starlight?  
Unless we give Starlight the Idiot ball, I see no way of her actually falling for anyting that Cozy could do.  
I mean, in “To where and Back again” we see how good Starlight is in seeing through disguises and lies. How the hell she didn’t do it this time?

I mean, we are talking about Starlight.  
The pony who has an inceadible fighting skills, especially at dogeing (like in Cutie Re-mark).  
Besides, if you want to go on technical terms, I’d heavily doubt that, with her size, Cozy glow would be able to “stealthly” make swing that would gather enough force to knock somepony out.
