Season 9 Discussion Thread [NO SPOILERS, DF airings only]

The only two times he did something like that was when Starlight was about to get crushed by a pile of books and now - it must be like how in a dangerous situation people get strength they didn’t even know they had.

I gotta say, that despite of how awful was the premiere, Uprooted and She’s All Yak, every other episode was at least averege (good). I hope that this streak will continue till the end of the season ^^

Trauma from changing the past and realizing that you basically caused Fallout can make you do that.

I see what you mean about Muddbriar, he tried to be better. But I still find him insufferable. Stoned he was at the best he ever was. Too bad they turned him back, lol.

I liked Mudbrier in The Maud Couple, but he was better here. :p

Episodes like this and Frenemies make me wish they would just retire The Mane Six and and let us see all the other character dynamics the show has to offer.

It’s interesting how I managed to start actually caring about the villains in the course of three episodes (two if you count the premiere as one), like not completely want to see them get stomped kind of care.

Absolutely. It’s also amazing completely unsurprising just how much spicier the character interactions are when they’re between characters that haven’t long since set aside their differences.

I’ve been talking about it since Starlight was introduced. Mane 6 did thier job. We had fun with them, but it was time to change protagonists for a “fresh” group of ponies ^^

As I get older, I find that people eventually reach a point where life stabilizes; your story isn’t over, it’s just not as compelling as it used to be. I’m not one for gatekeeping, but I feel like if people are genuinely invested in The Mane Six as characters, they’ll appreciate that The Mane Six have more or less reached this point.

To be brutally honest, I kinda hoped that they would go kinda similar way to “Doctor Who”.  
That they would stop having diffrent generations of MLP, and keep FiM forever.  
The only thing to change would be the main cast of characters every few years to mix things up.

Being slice of life focused is good and all, but adventure stories are great too.

It would be a great thing to see. You could do multiple seasons on that, with how much there is to these characters.

It’s the other way around for me. When I see episodes like today, I feel like I watch a FiM episode, yet with characters involved I don’t really care about. :/  
This is not FiM anymore, it’s some kind of crossover, alternate whatever thing.
 
It’s sad that the writers have so much lack of creativity for doing more with the Mane Six without being repetitive or with flatout random bizarre nonsense stuff.

Even the best characters have a shelf life. Eventually, writing for characters becomes less of an exercise in creativity and more of an exercise in book-keeping and cross-referencing. The Mane Six are stiff and rigid, having become over-saturated with lessons and character details.
