Both Lightning Dust and Zephyr appear to possess some of Rainbow’s own negative traits.
Such as overinflated ego, self centeredness(Rainbow on various occasions), inconsiderate, and recklessness. Not to mention fragile self esteem, insecurities, and undisciplined.
Rainbow’s ego and lack of discipline, and insecurities were the center theme of Newbie Dash.

This. She’s basically what Applejack would be with less patience (or raised by xenophobics amish.) Of course she’d be angry at applejack, what with being “that newcomer who feels so superior with muh traditions.”
Given that AJ’s flagpole placement accidentally cracked open a fault line, which caused Holder’s Boulder to fall off a cliff, I think that may be understandable.
For me, Lime was OK. I like all the other Pies more, but she never crossed a line, even when she threw out the Apples for breaking traditions.
Did you see how she smirked when Applejack didn’t want to eat their rock soup? She wanted her to suffer, or at least make an ass of herself.
Nope, that one is not alright. I wouldn’t set hoof on the Pie Farm.
Limestone had an excuse to be an ass though.
She’s just anal about maintaining the farm and Holder’s Bolder. Other than that, she seems alright. Just don’t touch Holder’s Boulder.
Lime mostly gets a pass for being a cute mare.
Limestone was more relatable. A hard worker that gets annoyed by others. I think people just don’t like how delusional Zephyr was. Though I doubt the hate for him is on the level of Sven or even of Blueblood.
I disliked Zephyr, but I don’t hate him. Svengallop is a true asshole, and Blueblood is a low-class dick.

I love the idea of a character that is stereotyped to be a lesbian hooked up with a character who is stereotyped to be gay. It’s the ultimate twist.
