After re-watching Shadow Play Part 1, I’m convinced that the orange dragon is indeed Smolder’s sensitive brother, he never looked or acted really mean towards Spike and Rainbow Dash and he clearly is being used as a lackey by Garble. I think perhaps Smolder’s brother is who Spike would have become if he stayed with Garble’s gang at the end of Dragon Quest.
I really hope this turns out to be true, because I want to see Spike gain one male dragon friend.
P.S on a noteworthy bit, Big Jim did seem coy when asked if Smolder was related to Spike in anyway, could it be that they are…cousins?
The episode also has a subplot, NOT ONE EGG IN THE DRAGON LANDS IS HATCHING! Is this a plot by Grogar?!

Boy am I glad I decided not to check this comment thread until now, after seeing the episode.
SPOILER ALERT!: her brother is garble
It really depends on his personality, plus I love that Fluttershy is involved, after seeing her in Episode 200, she and Spike have amazing chemestry and in truth, I’m pretty sure Fluttershy wishes, she could trade Zephyr for Spike as a brother.
Will she make Garble cry, now that would be gif worthy!
Prepare for alot of yelling.
I agree completely with you QueenCold, he seems somewhat like Pharynx was, I think…yes, Garble is Old Dragon Culture, while Spike and Smolder represent New Dragon Culture(Which combines compassion, caring and understanding with Dragon love of sports and competition) Garble may still think Pony culture will make them weak or “namby pamby pony lovers” as he says.
But I really want to see how Fluttershy will interact with Garble.
Garble seems more like the representation of the old dragon culture (which he was raised with, so it makes sense) rather than some kind of loner who is responsible for the anti-pony sentiment. A sentiment like that doesn’t just go away because your leader told you to stop disliking them.
Ember herself was hostile to ponies until Spike got her exactly what she wanted. Smolder still doesn’t want to be associated with pony-ish behavior because she was trained to feel an aversion to it her whole life.
I think it works better(at least I hope) as Garble to be the obstacle for these three(plus Fluttershy) to finally take down, it always seems like Garble is keeping Dragon prejudice against Ponies alive, but hopefully this episode manages to get his gang to turn against him.
