Her idolizing of Starswirl making her a space case seemed a bit like an echo of Rainbow doing the same because of Daring in Daring Don’t. Incidentally, the cast says exactly that out loud in the final scene, lol.

Starlight was also uncharacteristically passive in the finale. She made sure to voice her opinion, but she never truly fought to advance her course of action. As soon as she met resistance, she kinda just stepped out of the way. She didn’t even take any initiative in saving Stygian; she only went in after Twilight did. In prior episodes where the focus was on her, she was a pony of action, often hastily taking extreme measures to have things done the way she thinks they ought to be done. So there was both opportunity and precedent for Starlight to be the big hero of the finale, but it didn’t happen.
 
Similarly, Starlight wasn’t the sole voice of reason either, though she easily could have been written to. Though she was ultimately right, every argument of hers had a reasonable counterargument. She correctly deduced that the Pony of Shadows might be let out if the pillars were saved, but it also would have been wrong to keep six heroes trapped in limbo. It’s true that the map summoned ponies (and Spike) to solve friendship problems, but the idea that all the elements would be summoned to put a stop to a “supervillain” had merit. She correctly believed that Stygian could be reformed, but this wasn’t just Stygian they were dealing with - it was Stygian + the Darkness.
 
In the end, she contributed to the true happy ending, but she wasn’t solely responsible for it.

Well, I mean, Starlight’s first argument against releasing them is to do nothing and let them remained trapped. After that, her argument about not banishing anything is not only wrong (the Shade in fact goes to limbo at the end) but also is a cake and eat it too scenario at crunch time. Finally, her final plan is to have a conversation with the Pony of Shadows which barely works - super powerful Harmony force is needed to free him.
 
So, no, just because Starlight got her way in a reformation this time doesn’t mean she wasn’t dumb too. She eitehr wanted to do nothing, or try to do something in an ineffectual way. The first would have left seven important ponies trapped permanently or until non-Harmony barers found out and released them. The second would have had them without protection of the Elements and/or released the Shade into Equestria if Stygian was somehow freed. The convo one just helped them figure out that saving Stygian was the right course of action, but had they gone fully her way they wouldn’t have the power to save him. She was TOO soft handed and idealistic in how she wanted to solve the issue.

Sure, she made the wrong choices but she made them for the right reasons. She was trying to meet her idol and gain his approval. We’ve all done something silly for senpai notice us, right?

I think your interpretation is too charitable frankly, it seems to me that even Starlight would transparently mention this horribly obvious problem with the plan. It’s so glaringly obvious that they’re vaguely dancing around the issue with her dialogue.

Naturally named after Batman who has garnered a reputation that more than a few of you hate the character for, a reputation spurred by several works of fiction both good and bad that made him seem like the “Best Superhero Ever Able to Beat Anybody Because Shut Up”. Notable examples of this being JLA Act of God, All Star Batman & Robin, Batman the Brave & the Bold, Batman V Superman, the Bruce Timm Universe and Injustice 1 & 2.
 
And as for none DC examples of this phenomenon (off the top of my head), Rick Sanchez, Wolverine, Sasuke Uchiha, Ada Wong, Akuma, Goku, Thanos, Slimer in the later half of Real Ghostbuster and last but not least Starlight Glimmer.

As such you need to rewatch that episode and pay closer attention to how Starlight is the only one not given the idiot ball. You can try to explain it away all you want but I know Batgod Syndrome when I see it, it’s pretty much defined this season overall…
