I still don’t like her, but If I have to be honest, I think Starlight didn’t appear in seasons 8 and 9 as frequent as season 7, where she got many episodes where she was the main focus. Yeah, she was horrible in Road to friendship and Student Counsel. But at least she was fine in The ending of the end. I think this is where we see Starlight at her best: Helping everyone and making sure the villains do as little damage as possible.
I think the argument of “Starlight appears too much” was only true in season 7 (and maybe 6), but if she didn’t keep using her magic to manipulate everyone and swapping the cutie marks (kinda like she was before Cutie remark, which is still really creepy) and was actually learning from her mistakes, I bet more people would really like her, myself included.
I said it before in this site. I like redemption stories. But not at any cost.
I even remember of the season 7 was already giving her reduced episode count People still tried to claim she was taking over the show.
An actual argument I got from someone what’s that she was in every episode in a main way And just told me to watch the episodes again Which I didn’t need to because a simples combined search was all I needed
Sadly, that’s pretty common in the fandom. Starlight is by far the most controversial character even to this day. (I even remember an admin here years ago openly bashing her.)
A friend of mine still refuses to watch any episode she’s prominent in.
Even I admit I used to dislike her and even used to criticize her, but I got over it… Now I honestly regret contributing to the hatedom of her.
Perhaps it is merely my opinion, but judging by the cherry-picked examples and the obvious bad faith showing through his arguments, it seems like Ring Team here might have possibly been displaying the slightest bit of a bias against Starlight, methinks.
Edited
Which is literally what they needed to learn their lesson.
Um, no? Starlight Glimmer asked Sunburst if he wants to see her new spell, he agreed, then he told her he feels uncomfortable and she undid it.
How is that “bad”? She is just being “rude” at worst, i am not even sure how to call it. You are nitpicking.
Discord constantly screwed with her and almost harmed the students.
TL;DR.
She forced Big Macintosh with magic to talk to her with quotes like “I can’t be friends with somepony who doesn’t talk”.
She mind controlled Twilight’s friends and didn’t see anything wrong with it until told otherwise by Twilight.
Forcibly swapped the cutie marks of Celestia and Luna without their consent.
She met Maud Pie and said that that she likes rocks because they don’t judge you… despite what she has done in the past.
She also doesn’t empathise with Rarity and her hair issue. Does she have a problem? I don’t care, as long as it’s not mine. According to Starlight, Hell is other people.
She used time travel spells and transformed her best friend into a child, ignoring all his objections.
Starlight basically encouraged Twilight to reopen her new school that was shut down for valid reasons.
She told Twilight in a condescending way that she’s not a princess-princess.
She blasted Discord to kingdom come for heckling her.
Despite considering Trixie one of her best friends, she traded away her home without her consent and gets angry at her for being upset about it.
And speaking about Trixie, despite considering her and Sunburst her two best friends, she constantly ignored not only Trixie, but also her goal to properly prepare a party for Sunburst.
So, in a way, Starlight is a b*tch. I don’t know why anyone would genuinely like a character that does stuff like this.
Then I hope it’s true. :)
I’m just going by what I have heard.
Ah? Did they revise the synopsis recently?
Apparently the 2017 MLP movie is supposed to.
Agreed. One of the most enjoyable things in this fandom is to see what headcanons we can come up to fill in the gaps left uncovered by the canon material.
Yeah, though it is kinda fun to see many different fans’ takes on their orgins.
Then again, the princesses’ origins remain a mystery. It would be nice if the show went on to shed some light on that too someday.
Edited because: Because there can never be enough worldbuilding IMO
It seemed to suggest Celestia & Luna weren’t born alicorns. I was kinda hoping they would of been, to kinda set them apart from Twilight & Cadance a bit.
So was every living thing, using the word “made” in that way. lol
technically she was made, just the old fashioned way.
True (at least since Flurry Heart was born). Guess that’s the kind of thing we can chalk up to “it happens”.
Not every alicorn is made.
Why Flurry was born an alicorn when they’re supposed to ascend, as Twilight pointed out in “The Crystalling”. Even Celestia had no answer to that IIRC.
Edited because: ator
