More like it started because people shipped Twilight with frankly many characters instead. Twixie for example before S6 was oddly strong after all.

Back in the day the lack of a canon ship meant people would make their own romances for whatever reason. It didn’t died down because they started to ship her with somebody else, it died off just because people got tired of being angry and also because Flash got sidelined while getting more character to his name. Yes, its possible to get tired of being angry even if it might take longer for some people to say the least. Some rage quits happen because people discover they wasted energy for essentially nothing in return, those carbos and vitamins would get quickly consumed by overemotional brains after all.

Nowadays if anything Flashlight is somewhat more tolerated specially because once again Twilight never hook up with anyone, and since people cannot spend a single day without romance and/or sex they need to cling to any ship. Funnily enough now Twixie is actually more unpopular than flashlight as for today.

You know what really sucks? When someone disagrees with someone on one image and then stalks that person they disagree with to anyplace else they’ve posted something and casting shade on them there, too.

It seems legit and verified. But we’ll know for sure if Oct 17 ends up being the last episode.

All indications are that G5 media is coming to an abrupt end. Merchandise is still getting a push though.

Hasbro hasn’t been doing well overall in the toy department I hear.

That’s largely been due to “partner brands.”

Which is their polite way to say “Disney.”

We might keep seeing G5 merchandise for a while, as retailers try to sell what’s already been manufactured. Also, retailers and consumers aren’t necessarily as discerning about the generation differences as we are.
I still see G4 merchandise from time to time, so we might keep seeing G5 stuff well after it’s been officially cancelled.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that “Generation” is a completely fan-made designation, that only recently Hasbro started to use themselves.

The media is canceled, but I don’t think there will ever be a point when G5 as a brand entity is considered officially canceled. I believe we’re still going to see something like the Ponyverse plan. They’ll keep marketing every gen for as much as they’re worth. How the media will work is anyone’s guess.

This is a good point. Over on the Transformers side, Hasbro has been slowly downplaying the term “Generations” in favor of “Universes”. I’m guessing they want to reorganize MLP with a similar structure, because they’ve had success with it.

Only Pokemon can do the whole generation thing and sticks to it. Though for the general public everything might as well come from Gen1.

Sure, although I think this kind of applies to the fandom a bit as well.

Aside from the starters, most fan art features either Gen 1 pokemon or a handful of popular ones from Gens 2-7

I get it with Pokemon. Gen 1 hooked me. Gen 2 reeled me in. I gave Gen 3 a chance but something about it bored me so bad that I never went back to Pokemon again. I don’t remember having any specific problems with it. It just wasn’t doing it for me.

This only happened to me around Gen 8, but even then the anime still hooked me in. As much as I try to get away from Pokemon. I can’t.

Whether MLP or Pokémon, people tend to have the strongest attachment to their first Gen. My favorite stretch in Pokémon is Gen 3 - Gen 5, which probably tells you which Gen I started with. MLP G4 wasn’t the first Generation, but for a lot of people it might as well have been.

There are many, many, people who see the franchise as little more than “the stuff that came before G4” → G4 → “the stuff that came after G4”. That lack of perspective is also why negatively comparing G5 to G4 can come across as disingenuous when done by someone without a context for G1-G3.

I recently watched through My Little Pony Tales, and I don’t think it’s that bad. In fact, I like it more than early Make Your Mark. The main characters have strong personalities, and their pettiness makes them feel more like tweenagers. Even though it takes place almost entirely in one small town, the world doesn’t feel small because it has all sorts of locations and the main characters have social circles outside of their ensemble.

I think G5’s biggest worldbuilding mistake was saying there’s only one town for each pony tribe.

I unapologetically enjoy Tales. Aside from the first two specials, I think it’s the best part of G1.

Tales is a beautiful mess. It really wasn’t well made on any level. The writing was more ambitious than they were able to handle. But the cast is adorable and way more interesting than you expect at first. It’s worth a rewatch to catch all the little character moments that are present before anyone ever mentions them.
