I don’t get why people wre saying that people are only liking Wild Manes to trash G5, almost all tge support for the show I have seen is coming from fans of both shows

You’d be shocked by some of the comments I’ve read, some were even going so far as to say they thought Wild Manes would be better than G4 and G5 combined and rooted for it to overtake MLP. O_O

I think Wild Manes is basically this: if you liked Tell Your Tale you probably will like Wild Manes and find it charming but if you think TYT was mediocre, you’re just gonna find WM to have the same things you disliked about TYT

Like, it’s good to not have a huge ego and act like your favorite franchise being ripped off is an actual crime against humanity (hi, Pokemon fans who legitimately wanted Nintendo to sue the makers of Palworld! :D)…but it’s not good to go to the other extreme and…basically backstab a franchise you’re supposed to be a fan of just because a rip-off of it has an art style you like.

I like TYT, but I’m just not feeling WM despite giving it an honest chance. The characters are paper-thin with no compelling background or goals, the plots are just standard kids show trope plots, and the flashback narrative storytelling is far too unsubtle and pointless given the simplistic nature of the plots, feeling like it’s just being done to save thirty seconds of animation costs. I’m totally fine with the show doing what it wants to do…but unfortunately, it seems to me that it doesn’t want to put much effort into being a true MLP competitor.

I only watched a few seconds of Wild Manes.
Animation is nice. Voice acting is good. But the characters are kinda over-designed.

Watched the two episodes of Wild Manes. I don’t love or dislike it. It’s okay, and I might continue watching it if I remember to.
So the negatives first:
- Not a fan of the story being told in flashback. If this is really gonna happen every episode, I feel it’ll get annoying fast. Plus, they could save time to do more with the time saved from repeating scenes that lead to the flashback.
- The fourth-wall breaking kind-of takes me out of it. As much as the fandom likes to exaggerate Pinkie’s powers, I don’t think it was blatant like talking directly to the audience.
- The town (Wild, I think?) feels really empty. Even if I know they aren’t the only ponies there and there are other named ponies, the lack of background ponies makes the town feel like a bit of a ghost town.
Positives:
- The episodes are only 5 minutes, but I feel they use that time pretty wisely. For the most part, the plot doesn’t feel too crammed and rushed.
- Characterization and voice acting are pretty good. They fall heavily into stereotypes, but then again so did G4 and G5, so I’m not taking points off there.
- The designs aren’t bad. I like them.
Neutral:
- The stories are very simple and unfortunately they don’t really have the depth FiM and MYM had or the overblown humor TYT has. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t exactly catch my interest and I found myself pausing to do something else. Granted, I do the same thing G4 and G5 too, which is why I put this in neutral section.

Really now - telling a respectable story in five minutes requires using your time efficiently, minimizing the amount of time you’re not advancing the story.

Okay. But they have the episode start in the middle of the story, then have Coco flashback to the beginning and run it until it reaches the point where Coco flashbacks to the beginning of the story. Why not just tell the story from the beginning in the first place? Right now, it just seems like they do it to accommodate Coco’s fourth-wall breaking (which I’m not a fan of either).

In hindsight, Zecora got a bit underused, a bit of a shame because I liked how knowledgeable she was about magic.

It is what I would deem similar to g2 where it’s ponies in modern everyday life. If regarding the last negative point though, it did just start out. G4 is overblown with clones while g5 just started and decided not to use or make clones obvious.
