I see how this has been a major hurdle for moderators - especially since the rules presented to the public had little to no connection with the rules enforced by moderators. Of course offloading all the work on a different site with fewer resources will not resolve the problem at all, but as long as the mods are happy (for now) everyhing’s fine, right? Honestly, i’m just glad there are rules now, as opposed to the lawless tyranny that was 2024. At least y’all will fade away with some dignity

I was wondering when this was going to occur, as someone who doesn’t always have the filters up to disable viewing, i would frequently see spam dumps of 30 plus images for secondary characters. I assumed there were going to be issues, which some mods have outlined here regarding this form of content, so personally the only surprise I have, is that it took this long for it to be made into official policy; which to me speaks that it is a much bigger issue than what us normal browsers realized.

A good contrast for AI art is the decision to allow Wild Manes art. When that announcement was made, there were those who flipped out at the INSVLT TO PONY PVRUTY their presence represented. However, it’s been a couple of months, and there’s no more than 300 of them. If WM were on pace to break 30,000 images in a year, I could easily see staff making a similar decision for that. 30k/yr is enough to seed a self-sustaining community. Pragmatism over arguments from first principles.

Allowing AI art is a good way to run out of storage space as people constantly upload their low effort images. The volume of AI art has been insane since it became more popular for people to do. It is a smart move to ban AI generated art for the longevity of any art hosting site.

If you have ai art that you don’t want to post on tantabus, may I suggest Twibooru.
Please check it out before you dismiss it as ‘just another altbooru’.

Aye, Wild Manes slots straight into the Guardians of Pondonia territory, its something MLP adjacent, but as you said it doesn’t have a fanbase big enough to justify its own site. Ai on the other hand is more like a tide, as a single session of someone prompting can produce more then an entire tag.

Why is AI art that’s already been aproved being removed?
Surely pre-existing posts aren’t taking up moderation time?
the entity

Again, I’ll say this: we either need a system to migrate favorites for AI art pieces to the new site conveniently, or we need to, simply… not remove all currently existing AI art, just ban new ones? Or maybe a system where old favorites/links simply redirect to Tantabus?
This is extremely important to address before we start removing already uploaded artwork. I’m not seeing any solutions being provided here…

It is very sad that you have decided to start removing existing works from AI specifically from the main site, because this is part of its legacy. Despite this, I am grateful that you have taken such a comprehensive approach to the issue of user convenience that you have copied existing works to tantabus. I’m one of those, perhaps, few people who don’t care who created the work, as long as it’s good, and there are a lot of really good AI works on derpi. Anyway, thanks for the work!

@Background Pony #8430 Though you are technically correct insofar as AI images have been around for 7 years and the first image on Derpi was 13 years ago, 15.ai didn’t come about until 5 years, and Stable Diffusion-based images didn’t start appearing until 2 years ago.
So yes, technically AI has been around almost as long as the site itself has, but the deluge of decently hi-fi AI art is incredibly recent by comparison.
Though, it is good to know you are thankful for their efforts of preservation.

IIRC it’s to minimise confusion so that down the line people who are new, or returning users who happened to miss the rule change and this thread aren’t wondering “why can’t I post my AI Generated images here, there’s AI Generated images already on the site?”
