I actually intend to implement a feature exactly like this one. Someday, sometime. The basic gist of how it’d work, it’d recommend images based on global trends (upvotes, views, faves, tags, <all other criteria>) if you’re not logged in, and if you are logged in - based on the data the system knows about you (your views, upvotes, watched tags, etc). You will be able to opt out of using your data like this, essentially viewing recommendations as if you’re anon, and returning to basically the exact same old derpibooru as it is now.
The recommended block might be positioned at the top of the homepage, or just above the watched images, or maybe below the watched images.
We may also use a machine learning model to help suggest you stuff.
Oh and we might take inspiration from the youtube algorithm, yes.
(please note, this is a very rough idea and hasn’t been given any real thought so far)
