Don't blame me, I voted for the other guy. (Politics General)

See, that’s assuming Bibi is going to be reasonable enough at that point. While he has probably backed off before, there’s no guarantee. The way I see it, if he’s not given an off ramp or some semblance of it, I wouldn’t put it past him to drop warheads on himself.

Do note that I’m not proposing any sort of genocidal wars.
Just that we, as a nation, don’t really need to take most “red lines” against us seriously. Israel, like Russia, could talk all the big game they want. But in the end, there isn’t much they can do to us.
marinus18

@Zincy
With Russia they are strong enough and can nuclear bomb the US. With Israel they don’t have the firepower to overwhelm the US missile defense system. Even china is an iffy case, the US anti-missile inventory was calculated against China though I don’t know if it has been updated since.
Nevertheless Russia and the US each have more nuclear weapons than all other nuclear states combined by a significant margin. Many don’t realize how scewed it is, Russia and the US have over 90% of all nuclear weapons. They really are in a league of their own.

In a nuclear exchange, everyone loses.
In a conventional war, the US would wipe the floor with Russia.
Russia, for all its bluster, has struggled to take down a nation 1/8th its size, that was given mostly hand-me-down weapons from NATO.
The Russia army is big, but poorly equipped and mostly run on vodka and bravado.

At this point I really do think that Harris is banking on Never Trump Republicans replacing any Muslim-Americans and progressives going Green over Gaza. And the math just might work out for her.
It explains why she’s straight up bragging about expanding domestic production of fossil fuels when it needs to be wound down globally, and we needed to start doing that years ago.

@BlitztheDragon
I’m guessing that she can’t make them budge on Palestine no matter what, so she’s turning to voters that can still be swayed.
Not sure if it’s a good idea, but who knows.

Israel is a major liability to the US. Israel has ignored US mandates many times so there should be a show of strength that America’s support is conditional. Increasing domestic production will do little if it’s still under capitalist control, they will try to keep prices high any way they can. If she wants to lower prices it should be nationalized.
marinus18

@Zincy
The only real solution is to nationalize it. But a full century of indoctrination is hard to overcome. It is kind of stupid though that a country that is extremely dependent on something and also has that thing will just put itself at the mercy of foreign markets anyway.

@Zincy
It would also be a massive gut punch to the left if she wins with disgruntled Republican support.
marinus18

@Meanlucario
Which is really, really bad. The last time that happened was really under Clinton and it meant the elite from both sides basically screwing over everyone else.
Both democrats and republicans are overwhelmingly the elite and because of the supreme court they can accept bribes. So without antagonism between the parties they will just take bribe money and make life worse for everyone who’s not elite, why not since there is nothing the people can do. This sort of was the case with Bill Clinton and to a lesser extent with Barrack Obama. This uniparty is what Trump was able to use to get elected.
The US is a capitalist system so there is a struggle between workers and owners. If the democrats become a uniparty that just means they support the owners that pay their bribes.

@Meanlucario
I think I should have specified it with the hardline leftists. If Harris can pull Republican votes in swing states and maybe Florida/Texas, we could hit 280.
(I’m saying 280 because we know they’re going to try to throw it to SCOTUS)
marinus18

@Background Pony #D717
There a problem there which is that the majority of the population is “left”. If you actually have policies that will improve their lives they will vote for you. Kamala is trying to get a small number of republicans while throwing away a majority of the population. She is trying to be the center of the establishment rather than at the center of the population.
“Hardline leftists” are the majority of the population.
Kamala shouldn’t go after some fictional middle that doesn’t exist. She should go after popular policies that the majority of the population wants and just not care what they are called. In the beginning Kamala had a strong campaign but now she’s sliding back into the same rot that made Clinton and Obama so bad. She should push popular policy and be very open that she doesn’t care what label is slapped on it or what the other elites think about it. It’s what FDR did and he was pretty much unbeatable as a president.
marinus18

@Background Pony #E7E4
If she continues to water down her success she will basically be like Obama. She will regress Biden’s policies to Obama and just let workers rot. She doesn’t need 80% of the vote, 51% will do just fine after all.
But good policy can win votes, you don’t need all the elitist appeasement.
marinus18

@Background Pony #D717
Indeed cause while he at least in 2008 had a decent campaign other democrats did not and went with the milktoast “moderate” route. If democrats want to get power they need to give people a reason to vote for them.

Democrats continued their recent string of self-owns and pivoting rightward as the White House accepted Republicans’ framing of Brazil banning Xitter and condemned the country for disrespecting free speech.
Leaving aside the supreme hypocrisy of the condemnation with how eager Biden and friends were/are to ban Tik Tok, this is performatively throwing away good relations with one of our allies all to suck up to people who weren’t going to vote for them anyways.
