The “female Custodes” drama flared up again a few days ago with click-bait articles saying that Henry Cavill planned to leave the upcoming Warhammer show over it.

These rumors turned out to be false, but it highlights the sometimes utterly absurd nature of the 40k fandom.

Was it a dumb change that was poorly implemented? Yes, it should have been new lore rather than a retcon.

But come on, Games Workshop has retconned far, far worse stuff and did way more bullshit moves over the years. But this is the sacred cow for folks? Custodes are one of my favorite armies and I love the lore behind them. Yea, the retcon annoyed me, but I’m not going to throw a shit-fit about it.

Personally, I think it really should have been new lore. Like, have it that Cawl decided to help speed up Custodes production with some of the secrets he learned from the Primarus program and that he figured out how to make women into Custodes. Wouldn’t be a stretch since they don’t rely on geneseed, and thus don’t have the same restrictions that Space Marines do.

I don’t know how to feel about this.
