is really up to the writer and their worldbuilding.
since I’m from the asia side of magic, I tend to think the most basic is Qi/Mana/Magic-Pool Awareness.
As in, the student must at least first be able to perceive and gain access to their own magic pool, else they won’t be able to do anything with it.
the simplest “spells” would be to “see” your own and or others’ mana pool and movement.
The next step should be the ability to manipulate the flow of your own mana pool within your body.
idk mang. the field of wizardry can be anything from martial arts to advanced tech depending on how you write it.
As in, The Wizard can be the type able to punch a hole thru metal armor and land from 50feet without fall damage, all without being able to cast a single fireball (a la Force Users)
or The Wizard can conjure up biblical natural disasters but gets in trouble the moment a warrior throws hands with them.
or The Wizard is walking menace. Able to defy gravity and reverse-jump twenty opponents with their bare hands while casually throwing devastating projectiles at the hundred others outside of their striking distance. (Goku, Madara, Sukuna, The Avatar, etc)
