I went and saw Boy and The Heron today. It was fine. Felt a bit long-winded.

The thing about Miyazaki movies is you can categorize them into two different categories. Slice of life adventures, and commentaries on war and fighting. And I don’t think the movie knows what exactly it wants to be. It was good, but I thought his last movie The Wind Rises was way better.

I will say that the animation was easily the best part of the movie. The artstyle felt a bit like a modern day version of Spirited Away. I would go so far as to say this might be Miyazaki’s most visually impressive movie he’s ever made.

Look, all I’m saying is I know Legendary’s Godzilla having purple spines and atomic breath is supposed to be a reference to Millennium Era Godzilla, but based off of the trailer I choose to believe he turned trans and is now shacking up with Kong.

It’s canon that Godzilla gets lonely and Mothra is taking her sweet time reincarnating.

I honestly feel the same way. Miyazaki can get weird but sometimes he can get too weird and he can get weird just for weird sake. It’s like with Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo, but at least with those two it either has obvious meaning (war is bad) or is charming and cute. The Boy and The Heron’s weirdness seems to have no meaning and isn’t all that charming. Honestly a bit sad this is the last Miyazaki work, but it also seems fitting somehow.

Hbomberguy opened up a whole can of venomous worm with his plagiarism and youtube video and now a lot of people is pretty much either grieving or consuming lethal dose of copium.

When you make a 3hr long video arguing that some big name youtubers have stolen content and or regularly steal from undisclosed sources, you’re stirring up the hornet’s nest.

And now you actually have simps of them big channels be like: Good. I hope he (content creator) plagiarizes more and turn them into awesome stuff.

Essentially; many content consumer have concluded that good content / good ideas are wasted on small, unknown, insignificant creators and those content / ideas are better on popular channels. I.e. If you’re a small-time content creator–you’re better off selling ideas to bigger content creators for profit, because chances are they’ll just take it from you and you’re left with nothing for the trouble, so you might as well try make some money out of it, at the expense of your own channel growth.

kinna racist, kinna homophobic, broad-brush-painting type of mf. Is a full proponent of AI art and uses it as a crutch for his lack of skill. Perhaps jealous of his brother Jazza who is…well…very good at visual art, digital or otherwise.

The worst part is that he claims that AI art takes skill to master and that he’s a skilled artist for having more knowledge on how to use AI art generators.

side note: while TRUE, that you need to figure out what’s under the hood to really fine tune and make a very specific, very deliberate piece of visual art, like a director with a vision, you CAN’T say you’re a skilled artist when you’re using AI to do 80% of the work for you. YES you’re a visual artist, but not a skilled visual artist. You have the vision and the sense but you can’t say you have the skill for visual art–but you do have the skill to direct an AI art generator.

So anyway he wrote a book. It’s uh…

I used to quite like Shad until he went on that big tangent about how women using swords in fiction is wrong and brought at the old chestnut of “women should be shown with their own strengths, like healing and child care” bullshit.

And then doubled down on it, and got into a shitfit when that one other sword based YouTuber, the Nordic guy, called him out on it.

It’s essentially got the style and content of japanese light novels you see in r18 syosetu. MC is overpowered. MC was a tyrant who got punished by having most of his powers taken and turned young. Because of course. Gotta relate to the audience.
One of his companions is a woman he had raped in his previous life, and a magical black person. Also apparently one of the very first female characters in the book was described as having melon sized breasts.

YEAH NO THIS SOME ISEKAI SHIT BRUH COME ON.

And then he did a VIDEO basically saying “oh, ppl think my shit’s bad? Nuh-uh! reviews on the platforms where I had them published says otherwise.” And then ppl point out that the positive reviews have come from fans of his Youtube channel, some haven’t even read the book and gave it a 5 star

I only know him for his medieval weapons stuff, which I always find cool. But since I’m not a history (and or military) nerd I don’t really sub to his channel, just go back to it when algorithm decides I should watch his video.
