Ideas that You Just Can't Get Out of Your Head

All artists, no matter the medium we practice in, suffer from one common issue: coming into contact with an idea that just won’t go away. Sometimes, what prevents us from using these ideas is that we’re convinced that they’re too stupid to work. And sometimes we’re so excited about them and need to tell someone else about them just to feel proud. I thought that this would be an appropriate thread for that. Post about any ideas that you currently have, whether it’s an idea for a story, artwork, etc.

For ages I had this idea for a story that I never got around to writing and probably never will. It involves a monster called Groke from The Moomins, finding ponies in middle of winter wrap up.
 
The Groke is a lonely monster that freezes everything to death on touch and plant life close to it also withers due to the cold. It however isn’t really evil but just very lonely. It likes beutiful things like gems or sheasells and wants to collect or even steal them. It likes to try fun things like in one episode it wanted to really badly ride a horse made of snow when other characters told it that it could not. It mostly communicates by groaning and sometimes yelling from far away. All it really wants are friends but it can’t have any because it would end up freezing them without realizing it. This thing caused me and many others lot of nightmares during childhood.
 
So my idea for the story would be for this monster to stumble upon bunch of ponies having fun and singing while they are wrapping up winter. It would see them building nests for birds, ice skate on the lake and plant seeds on the ground. On night it would try to do these activities but end up undoing everything instead with its cold presence, freezing everything all over again and ruining the crops. This monster is a sad thing that cannot have friends despite it dearly wanting to and in my opinion would fit the theme of the show well.
 
I haven’t figured out how the story would end however. Would it be driven away? Would someone come to an understanding of this monsters dilemma yet still fail to help it? No matter what the ending would be, Groke would still end up being alone.

Ah, wasn’t the Fanfic Writing General thread pretty much the same as this?

Nope, this one is extended to artwork, too (unless you consider fancomics fanfiction, which I really don’t).
 
Besides, the fanfiction thread is for just that: fanfiction. Some of us enjoy branching off into original work. That’s not to say that original ideas haven’t been posted in the fanfiction thread before, but it’s nice to have a place for them.

That’s actually really nice. :O Maybe it could end with the ponies asking it to help bring on winter next year?

One idea that stuck with me ever since discovering Ponibooru was a version of the Dream Oath with Spike and Rarity.

This isn’t a specific idea so much as a jumble of recurring themes and fascinations for me.
 
The blurring of the lines between human and monster fascinates me, I like the idea of terrifying physical transformations into something utterly inhuman while at the same time I question why that necessitates abandoning all pretense of morality. If a human can be monstrous can a monster be humane?

Nah I think the ending should have Groke ending up alone. It is a big part of its character.

More often, the ideas that can’t get out of my head are ideas that require skills far greater than what I have.

the Cakes are expecting again: young Pound and Pumpkin are touching their mother Cup’s big pregnant tummy to feel the foal kick.

I have tons o’ ideas that refuse to leave my head (mostly because I won’t let them leave due to some odd delusion that I probably could do all of the ideas I have). I’ll just say them every now and then here, as there are some I don’t feel like I ought to give out before I might possibly actually do something with.
 
Here’s one, though:  
I’ve been meaning on making some kind of comic thingy with the song “Everything is Awesome” from the Lego Movie. Especially on the part where they start listing the different things that are awesome - have different ponies say the different things (Like have Maud where they say “rocks”, Dr Whooves when they say “clocks”, Fluttershy when they say “Frogs”, etc)  
There’s also other parts like where in the lyrics it says, “Dip my body in chocolate frostin’/ Three years later wash off the frostin’/ Smellin’ like a blossom, everything is awesome!” have Discord flooding himself with chocolate like in the Glass of Water song and get encased in a chocolate statue similar to his original stone prison.  
And the part right after that where it sings about having new “brown shoes” after stepping in mud show other ponies singing that while Rarity looks slightly horrified in the background.  
…aaaand etc. I’m finding it definitely sounds better in my head, so I’m just gonna shut up about all that now.
 
And I’m sure someone could do better than just making a simple comic out of it - Anyone with animating abilities are welcome to making some kinda PMV out this idea.

What are the rules concerning NSFW ideas here? Are spoiler tags sufficient, or would they have to be in a separate thread with the prosper prefix?

With the update to rule 7 you can post nsfw things in non-nsfw threads/images provided you spoiler the relevant text/image and prefix them with a short warning, like “nsfw”, “dark” for grimdark stuff, “grotesque” for the really nasty, gory stuff and such and so on.

Rapidash Twilight as Solar Flare (evil Celestia) ’s student.

All of the ponies switch bodies with their pets with hilarious results.

The characters from the rom hack of Earthbound (Equestriabound) with their counterparts and a “boss rush” with the main characters from the Equestriabound rom hack battling the Earthbound bosses and vice versa.

A pony game that’s like a combination of Banjo-Kazooie like gameplay, with the series-spanning worldmap like that of SBSP: Battle for Bikini Bottom.
 
Or perhaps a complicated dating simulator-like game where you play as a changeling trying to extract love from the pony-population. A large part of the game being keeping up with the relationships of the ponies around you, as well as what disguises you use among them.
