Go and explore more JRPGs out in the wild.  
Don’t even get me started on the FF7 Sephiroth cultists.  
It may not have been generic back in its days for setting a standard for JRPGs that g]has long been surpassed by later games. But it has outlived its shine.

They’ve even adapted beyond it.  
The music in FF7 is just.. meh. I’ve heard equal to better.
 
My point is, FF7 shouldn’t get as much praise as it does. There are other games that need more appreciation.

I dunno, they just feel rather plain compared to some others I’ve heard. Even FF3,5,6,9,14 have great music.

I disagree. The boss battle theme is still one of the best I’ve heard. Several of the character and location themes I also find quite enjoyable. Personally, I find that Final Fantasy 8 has the lesser soundtrack.

Also, what is wrong with Sephiroth? He was an effective villain

Probably less about -mama’s boy Sephiroth himself and more about how some fans tend to treat him as the be-all, end-all of villains.

He’s a momma’s boy.

I believe it was stated that Sephy’s will was strong enough to eventually dominate Jenova.

Kuja in general is a better villain than Sephy. He’s far more interesting and tragic.

I mean Sephy isn’t a bad villain by any means, don’t get me wrong. He’s still a really fine example of villainy, I just prefer Kuja.

Idk much about Kuja. The only potential pitfall I see is whether or not he’s tragic.  
That tends to be a turnoff for me personally

I’m more referring to the most annoying “in your face” strains in their groups. Not necessarily all. They were the most annoying things in Maplestory, with their dexless assassins, spamming ninja-wannabe quotes in their macro attacks. Not to mention they kill steal like no tomorrow….
 
Maplestory 2006-08, when they ruled the game. They evoke that type of unpleasant experience.

He’s a living existential crisis, but it doesn’t play deep into his character till the end. He doesn’t whine and wax throughout the game, he actually is very smug and powerful through a majority of it.
