THAT one hurts. At least a Puffer fish is actually a monster predator and is toxic to anything trying to eat it, (no seriously, they will eat scorpions, giant centipedes, and even snakes) but the dog thing ruined the literal lore of MLP and EG as a whole since NOTHING ELSE sent into the EG world turns into anything BUT a human. A literal case of just “lmao” with no thought put into it.

Well that stings.  
Spike could have gotten a seadragon form(granted it could use a bit of touch up) but instead they went with “Haha, Spike gets the short end of the stick again” is one of the major things that bothered me about the movie.  
The other bigger issue I had is the Royal Sisters(stings more for Luna..) getting badly shafted in whats essentially a once-in-alife time event(this movie here).
 
Man, Spike really can’t catch a break in terms of alternate forms stuff.

You know the Japanese name for seahorses translates to if I’m remembering correctly “ illegitimate Dragon child”. So Spike becoming a sea horse would be very appropriate.

Oh man, this version is way cuter! I understand why they chose the pufferfish version for the movie but I’m glad they shared this concept in the artbook.

Rule of thumb: never hotlink an image if it’s have “nocookie” in URL. It works unreliably. It have nothing to do with personal browser settings.

The original image URL is https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/es.pokemon/images/9/9b/Slowpoke.png/revision/latest?cb=20080909114936, does it work if you paste that into a new tab? Individual browser settings sometimes mean that hotlinking borks images that have extra fluff after the file extension in the URL. Does this Twilight and Spike image show up for you?  
 
If not, your browser or one of its add-ons or extensions is probably killing images with extra extra in the URL.

While I DO like the unused design, I think the reason they changed it is because a pufferfish is funnier.
 
When I saw the movie in theaters, every single kid in the theater laughed when Spike transformed. Do you think they would’ve laughed as hard had they used the original version?

Not even that. They used it for the one gag used in the trailers and then he was a non-factor background element for the rest of the seapony segment.
 
Doesn’t mean I have to enjoy the pufferfish choice since the viewers clearly had more inventive ideas on hand.

So after coming back from having seen the movie, I can plainly say that the reason they didn’t use the seadragon form is because he looks almost JUST like the baby Seaponies.

I think why him being a pufferfish was stupid is already explained multiple times on numerous pictures.

You know, in Kingdom Hearts, Donald and Goofy were never turn into the same thing as Sora like in Atlantica or Pride Lands. In fact Goofy is STILL a turtle. lol  
Donald and Goofy, and Spike are all in the PARTNER category. Sora and Twilight & the maine six are in the HERO category. I don’t see why people are complaining about Spike being a pufferfish. Though I like him as a sea dragon better.
