Nothing wrong with being polite. Personally the whole part about the fanbase thing will never really go away because it has been a meme so long it just goes unquestioned. I have seen people say Secret of My Excess was bad whereas a while back it was considered great.
It’s a running gag to dislike him and people will hold characterisations unfairly against him or refuse to judge an episode with him like they would others.
Maybe what I’m trying to say about this is that you’re pretty much right. The extremists still are not justified but fans of this specific character do have to deal with certain oddities that basically makes it so they cannot win.
While some fans do go to far, the opposite isn’t a healthy attitude either.
Whether we want to accept it or not, Spike does get the short end of the stick most of the time, is the butt of most jokes, and the one whose character suffers the most by being used/dumbed down when the plot requires someone to. And this without counting the comparatively huge amount of hate he gets from the fanbase compared to any other character. Most of which is usually cases of collective mentality, “am I cool yet guys?”, or jumping the bandwagon.
So yes, I’ve seen some Spike fans going to far, but what is the fanbase to do then? Just ignore it all while the haters pile up and the show keeps ignoring his character? They’ve listened to us (kinda) before. So I don’t think its illogical for Spike fans (the reasoable ones at least) to expect some level of change towards his character by being vocal in a polite way.
To be fair Spike is the butt of a LOT more jokes proportionally compared to pretty much everyone else in the show, so I can see how some fans get that mindset. Doesn’t make the crazier ones any less crazy but you know.
I bet he would be more-so angered at “Spike being the butt of a joke” again, and is going to use that as “proof” that the show staff hates Spike, and are totally “evil” for putting the ponies ahead of him, and blablabla…
I like Spike, but the “Spike Justice Warriors” scare me sometimes.
I still wish My Biggest Pony had been real.
Something to take away the bite, I guess. Will admit that when The Hub did this exact same gag that they put a lot more effort into it than three Facebook posts. And again, even more odd what is planned for him later.
Two of these are from past episodes, but yes, the top-right is from a future episode, which is obviously a strange thing to post on April 1st. X3
I’m sure he was just absolutely thrilled by the events of yesterday. A couple of the other ones just sort of wistfully dreamed and then remembered that there’s an entire toyline/movie/whatever starring him.
Reality isn’t far off from this fiction, which made the “joke” even more weird.
@FanOfMostEverything
Yeah, they did the same joke in 2014.
@sigh
Probably.
Not that I recall. There was My Biggest Pony and the sci-fi spinoff.
