cadence is nice and that’s important

• Pinkie Pie: Welp, she can be annoying. Sure, but I’m not really gonna criticize that. However, she’s often been filling basically the same trope forever as the silly, random character. Sure, that’s fun, but it gets tiring over the course of many years. I like seeing her personality flex back and forth and fluctuate, and Party of One is my favorite episode in Season 1 and a contender for my favorite episode of all time. All of her episodes feel like either they uncover something big about her private life or she’s just going around being silly and all that. I prefer the former, but the latter is probably a lot more common.
   
  Rainbow Dash: Weirdly, some of Rainbow’s boring or not interesting parts of the Wonderbolts episodes don’t come from her, but from Spitfire. I won’t talk about those though. Having Rainbow Dash as the prodigy flyer makes a lot of things dumb as time goes on. Her age isn’t explicitly said in the show (though I don’t know if the candles on the birthday were supposed to be her age or if that was ever actually explained by writers or anyone) and she seems like she’s underestimated by the majority of ponies, or that her status as one of the greatest fliers in Equestria hasn’t really effected her outside of when the episode is explicitly about that exact thing. I also feel like it took far too long for her to get into the Wonderbolts when her talents were so openly shown and stated to be literally jaw dropping as early as Season 1, episode 16.

• Applejack: I hate the way Applejack is handled in early episodes. I can’t say about later episodes as a lot of the newer seasons I just don’t remember at this point, but dear lord the “Background Pony Applejack” jokes started with the poor handling of her as a character in her character specific episodes. Her entire focus was exclusively about anything to do with family, and she even got involved when other characters were dealing with family issues of their own (See “Sisterhooves Social”) and it seemed like that’s the majority of what she was good for. Fine, she values family and apples. Okay. What else? Honest, hard work? Alright, can we get something that isn’t a stereotype?  
  (Basically everything past season 5 I don’t even remember anymore)
   
• Trixie: I preferred her the way she was. Arrogant, cocky, sporadic. Having her constantly involved in the show as another mainstay side character feels like… Well, like she’s lost the entire point of her being a wandering act. Sure, she works well with Starlight, but gods do I wish that they’d just leave Ponyville and travel Equestria. I’d even be okay with them dragging the camera along, and each new episode featured them doing something crazy in a new place in Equestria, with a new lesson learned and old friends showing up. But now. She was basically locked down by the new Twilight Sparkle.
   
• Starlight Glimmer: Speaking of, Starlight had a huge amount of focus shoved onto her character development. Some of those episodes were good. Some were iffy. But focusing intensely on a single character’s progression when an audience has only just met that character is basically the strategy of whoever the fuck thought Roman Reigns should be the one to retire The Undertaker.

• Chrysalis: One of my favorite villains. I don’t have a lot to criticize about her. The biggest thing I have is that I do not want to see her be reformed. I honestly have more of an issue with how the changelings changed and immediately turned around on her when Thorax, literally just some changeling drone, transformed into… y’know, that, and they all were like “Fuck the leader we’ve loyally followed for who the hell knows how long, let’s abandon ship in the blink of an eye!”
