I wouldn’t be so sure. Double Diamond doesn’t really give the impression that he prefers girls generally speaking, but he sure did seem to be Starlight’s shadow for most of “The Cutie Map.” And he certainly was one of the bigger stallions in Our Town. And even if he personally isn’t the biggest, the perks of being a cult leader, at least one of the other stallions there was.

Double Diamond was an interesting right-hoof stallion to Starlight.  
There’s no proof of it, but my head-canon is that he was the first pony she equalized.  
I liked the scene where he questioned her motives for keeping the mane six cutie marks separate,  
he was still clearly a loyal fanatic.  
DD seemed to take it especially badly when the truth about Starlight was revealed.

One of my fav little moments of Star’s from Season 7.
 
In Uncommon Bond, Sunburst and Twilight hit it off, and Star spends the whole scene worried as hell and feeling down.
 
But then, when Sun is settling into his room, and expresses disbelief at how well he’s getting on wih Twilight, Starlight initially seems to be making a genuine effort to make Sunburst comfy with the idea of being friends with Twi.
 
Sunburst: Right? I mean, I know she’s a princess, but I never thought she’d be so fun to just hang out with.  
Starlight Glimmer: Well, she is the ‘Princess of Friendship’.
 
Sunburst: I suppose I’m just surprised at how well we get along. I don’t have much in common with most ponies.  
Starlight Glimmer: You two are pretty similar. I don’t know many ponies who are fluent in Olde Ponish.
 
And the way she says these lines. She has this easy smile on her face with half lidded eyes. It really sounds like she’s happy for him. It’s then as she starts to feel more left out that her desperation ramps up.

I don’t like much the headcanon the Starlight fugged some of the stallions in her village to persuade them to join.

One of my favorite moments of Season 7 is in “A Royal Problem” where Starlight says to Twilight: “She’s your mentor. I think you might be biased.” I just loved it when she said that to her for some reason.

Me too. Also after Starlight tells the Royal Guard the excuse that she’s reading a book to hide the fact that she’s talking to Twilight.  
“Shhh! He might think I’m crazy!”  
“He’s not the only one…”  
This part also makes me laugh.

Me either. She’s cute, but not bewitchingly gorgeous to the point where her flank could do the recruiting for her. I think she persuaded all the ponies to join her village with her rhetoric, then enjoyed the perks of being a cult leader. And not just with the stallions.
 
Now, if Rarity started a cult…

I honestly think Starlight’s too damned immature to have actually enjoyed any of that. In her cult days, I see her as having the personality of a really dedicated 13 year old girl on Tumblr. It was the fight for equality 24/7 with her.

I think Starlight handled the friendship problem with Sunburst fairly well in that episode, all things considered.

Yep, Age Regressing yourself because you’re insecure about your mate having a good time with people who aren’t you is the pinnacle of handling it well.

Now, be fair. She realized it was a mistake about 10 seconds after doing it and turned them both back to normal at once. She was just doing what Twilight suggested, which was to try and reconnect through a shared love of magic. She was just also trying to get him to be as nostalgic for the past as she was.
 
It was a botched attempt to impress him, not something sinister.

Starlight strikes me as the type of girl who pretends she’s got her shit all together, then runs off to her bedroom to cry and smack herself in the forehead while yelling “Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!” at herself.

Man at this point, why does Starlight even bother trying to get back with Sunburst? Clearly they barely have anything in common except for a childhood board game, and unlike in Maud’s case, they’re not comfortable with each other and are just bored with each other. This is why I didn’t like “Uncommon Bond”.

Emphasis in the “BFF” part. Starlight is Paired with her Bestie with the hope that some of Trixie’s Awsomeness and popularty will Rub off on Her.
 
She is paired with Sunburst becuase Hasbro knows we’re suckers for Ships.
