Fun? That’s a little debatable, considering the arguments that come with it.

It’s only been two seasons with her appearances being sporadic, I don’t this this is Fluttershy or Applejack levels of milking flaws or something. And if she were less reliant on magic, there really isn’t a point of her being a magic studying unicorn is there. And I think the more interesting route for that is to turn her reliance on magic into something good. Turning a negative and turning it into a positive, if you will.

Her temper is still a problem, but more in that it inspires her to poor judgement and limits her ability to take criticism or cope with stress. And as noted, that’s getting much better too.

Something I’d certainly like to see is the writers not forcing her into a story that doesn’t need her even being there.
-Every Little Thing She Does, Mirror Magic, To Where and Back Again, and A Royal Problem are all examples of stories that she not only shouldn’t be involved in in the first place, but actively hurts the story by getting involved. The other characters end up getting completely shafted for her sake, whether it’s her plot armor having her be the only one not under the same inprisonment rules as anyone else, or the characters generally getting nerfed or otherwise forced to suffer because of her magic.

Why’d you hate that episode? I loved it. It was somewhat refreshing to see Starlight actually have to put up with someone who was annoying her to death. =P
I wasn’t a fan of the numerous “Trixie’s puppeteering” art it spawned, though. Not to mention….teacups.

Where do I begin?
First off, they upped Trixie’s selflessness up to eleven just for the sake of this episode. Granted, she is far far from the most humblest ponies in the show, but shrugging off the fact that she teleported an important piece of the castle and being completely obliviousness to Starlight’s paranoia is just inexcusable. You think she should’ve learned this by now from No Second Prances for being innocently insensitive.
Seeing Starlight constantly getting weaker and weaker from putting her anger in the bottle is just so uncomfortable for me to watch and it’s like she was going to collapse and fall into a coma! I’m all up for an episode of Glimmy controlling her anger and being more level headed, but this was a lousy start.
Then we have the B plot… no further questions.
The only positives that I can say (sorry Spinny) are the teacup and puppeteering Trixie memes that spawned, the part where both of the plots finished each other’s sentences was kinda funny, and Starlight blowing up at Trixie (see the image) was so cathartic. Maybe to only episode “The real Starlight” participated was Mirror Magic, cause no magic stuff involved around her, its like a vainilla ice cream… good, but its not ice cream grace. But her beautiful design was enough for me. The other episodes Starlight was a necessary role.

It being a very unhealthy thing to do was kinda the whole the point though. Starlight is a former super villain whose emotions (particularly anger) nearly ripped the timeline apart. So she went to an opposite extreme while trying to keep one of the few ponies that she considers a friend.
Plus, Starlight doesn’t exactly have a normal psyche. Being a former cult leader and willingness to destroy the timeline for revenge proves that, as well as the fact that she always seems to relate to other oddballs the most (Maud, Trixie, and Sunburst). For her to go around an emotional problem in a completely different way is standard for her, and in this case it backfired. As well plenty of other moments in her life (alongside the occasional moment of brilliance that is).

They’re definitely useless when forced into such situations, especially when it comes to Spike. Power Ponies did to Spike what Mirror Magic does to Starlight; everyone else is forcibly shafted while Spike/Starlight saves the day, but only because they were all that was left.
