IDW Comics - Meta Discussion

I’m honestly kind of sad that Friends Forever is ending soon. They tended to be a bit more consistently good, and I liked the “two characters paired that you normally wouldn’t see together” deal that it usually did. Not to mention I feel that there are still tons of combinations they could still do.

When Aj and Rarity were one of them, I didn’t think they were gonna capitalize on the concept to its full extent.

Honestly, the FF comics tended to vastly outdo the Main series comics, which really saddens me, as for the first 3 arcs, the main comics were GOOD. I still love the nightmare rarity comic arc.

When could we expect a preview for the deviation, granted it gets one.

 
Of course they gave the objectively worst artist on the staff the pegasi ponies and the dragon to draw.

The one issue I had been considering to buy just HAD to be assigned to their worst artist ever.

To be fair, they only have what, four artists now? Still, the cover Fosgitt did wasn’t…terrible I guess.

What’s up with that anyways? Its like they’re just content to let their art pool dwindle without replacing it. Fosgitt’s getting to be a pillar of their art that they rely on instead of just a random side artist :(

Why even bother when you sell regardless of how anything looks?

well, the sales have been going downhill– I think that points to complacency being a bad idea. Plus, the point of these comics ISN’T explicitly to sell the issues, but to sell the toys for hasbro. So I’d figure hasbro would want more effort being put into them.

The toys have been selling for months absent the comics honestly.

Even if you like Fosgitt’s art style you have to admit it’s not a good choice for a more action-oriented comic like Guardians of Harmony.

Let’s be honest- the toys will sell no matter if the comic, cartoon and movie are ass.
 
Pony toys are basically part of pop culture and I doubt anyone could imagine a toy aisle without transformers, barbies and ponies anymore.

The GOH toys are a bit more of a gamble though than other pony toys, they’re action/battle toys, compared to the normal “cute dresses and brushable hair” ones.
 
And there have been pony toys that have flopped pretty hard in the past, like the pony pop, or the traditional EQG dolls.

They have exactly two artists that are suitable for that; one drew two other chapters and the other is/was powering through six straight issues of the new line they are doing. Fleecs is passable, but he did two others as well.
 
There’s just not enough artists to pull from.

Well, Pencils confirmed he got an alt cover to draw, so who knows if by late 2017 he will join as another artist.

agreed very much! the main comic line always kind of stumbled a bit, but the FF one usually hit it off well.

Too bad they couldn’t borrow Matt Frank from the Godzilla comics. He would be perfect to draw the Big Spike chapter.

I suddenly now want a MLP comic drawn in a completely different “realistic” Godzilla comic style, with spike drawn exactly like Godzilla and the ponies as Photo-realistic horses.
