No, threatening to assault people, even as a joke, isn’t acceptable.
 
Then again this is the guy that wrote an entire comic soapboxing about racism in one issue but then portrayed casual racism as fixing a problem in other.

I was tempted to link to a video about floating-point numbers in Super Mario 64 to show how far downhill IDW’s gone, but, ehhh…

Bullshit. Frustration at the PC attitude of using kid gloves to handle everyone and everything lest someone be offended is a small but significant portion of the mindset that got Trump elected. And I say that as someone who despises the man and have never and would never vote for him.

These and the aforementioned and more are all expressions embedded in the fabric of American English. They are never going away.

Not only will it be considered a grave injustice, but if it’s by an acceptable target then it’s a-ok to tweak the facts to fit the narrative, like saying it’s directed at 3 year old girls at an MLP convention instead of towards twitter using adults who understand nuance, while at a comic-con.
 
But hey, when fairness isn’t policy then facts don’t matter and people can non-sarcastically wish rape and arson upon IDW staff without fearing mod action because “it’s obviously just charged language and not a threat” (to be fair, I wouldn’t even take a post like that on here seriously. It’s the fostering of conflict and extreme negativity on the site aspect of such posts that bother me).

You mean people exactly like Jeremy Whitley? He was upset at people who he paints as hateful “anti-PC” racists or something. I’m not the one who turned this into politics, by the way. His phrasing was not as simple as those expressions.

Curnow’s not involved with the Transformers comics. At all. Pretty sure he never has been.
 
Also, remember that time a certain someone in this thread tried to paint Heather Breckel as a horrible person who hated bronies by taking some of her tweets out-of-context and ignoring moments where she defended the fandom from SJWs on Tumblr? THAT’S the kind of libel dynamicv was talking about.

I definitely remember that certain user talking smack about Breckel, but then a lot of other folks here did defend her, then you brought up Mebberson. I don’t know, it’s been a while and I usually try to forget moments like that.
 
Also, I think Curnow also edits the Godzilla comics and maybe one other comic for IDW… Can’t remember the other one though.

What makes this even more ridiculous to me is strangling or beating someone up are actions that some people are at least capable of doing, while knocking someone backwards in time is literally impossible. There’s no way for me to take this seriously when so many people are constantly shit-talking one another with threats of possible violence that they don’t ever intent to follow through with because that’s how nuance in language works.

Banter among nobodies is banter. A professional saying they’d go to a convention, ie. a business trip, and assault one of their fans is not banter.
 
If I, under my name and known to work for my employer, went to a convention for my employer’s product, saying I’d assault someone there for saying the wrong words, I’d get fired. Rightfully.
 
If anyone wants to argue that Whitley’s threats should be dismissed, then so should those of every miscreant that ever threatened them or anyone else online. Except Whitley and Anderson and their ilk are more than happy to constantly whine about mean people saying ugly things online.

“I will stab you so hard I’ll split the atom” just means “I want to stab you really hard”, not “YOU’RE A WIZARD NOW, HARRY”.

I’m sure that defending IDW and bashing whichever “certain users” who dared to criticrize it’s staff will not help recovering IDW’s poor comic sales.
 
At the end, it’s just a business and business with poor quality control and a bad bahaviored staff end up earning a bad reputation and worse sales, any person who ever had a job can understand this.
 
Having said that, I would really like to see IDW learning from it’s mistakes and improving their products’ quality and general corporative image.

Have to agree with you 100% on this.  
My personal favorite “over-the-top cartoonishly silly threat” came from that Jim Carrey Grinch movie~  

It’s not about “daring to criticize the staff.” It’s about cherrypicking things and taking them out of context to fit your “Heather Breckel hates the fans” narrative while deliberately ignoring evidence that doesn’t fit your narrative.

Oh, Whitley is most definitely a douchebag, no question. I’m mostly referring to Breckel, who for the most part seems pretty nice.

I’ve come across people trying to paint Breckel in a bad light a few times in the last year. It’s weird, because she’s always been a very positive, very above-it-all person.
 
Mebberson made a mistake, taking the thoughts of a few as representative of the totality. She hasn’t made it since, as far as I know.
 
The only staff members I have any sort of actual resentment against are Whitley (who is a hypocrite) and Fosgit (who thinks that horses have angle-brackets for legs). I don’t even care that much about Anderson these days. He’s a competent writer when he’s not jamming references to arseholes in his work.
 
Most of my annoyance is reserved for Curnow, who has taken what could have been a flagship operation and half-arsed it into mediocrity because he knows that it’ll bring in the licensing money no matter how little effort expends on it.

Mebberson just doesn’t want to interact with fans, which I honestly understand to some degree. Anderson has actually gotten worse at writing though.
