Rainbow Dash: Aw yeah! Congrats on your first triple-kill, Twilight!
Also, our first Season 3 screencaps. Woo!

Transcript:
Twilight Sparkle: I’m attacking! Rolling for Initiative.
DM: Really? You’re gonna make me break out the combat stats this soon?
Twilight Sparkle: <roll> 16!
DM: Fluttershy. Seriously. You’re gonna let them do this?
Fluttershy: Well, um, I did kind of cause this… and they seem to know what to do, so I trust them…
DM: Rrrgh. <roll> …Alright, the three parasprites move AFTER Twilight.
Twilight Sparkle: Okay. I activate Wizard’s Fury! It’s a Daily that lets me use Magic Missile as a minor action until the end of the encounter.
DM: Is it free? Hmm, no, it’s a minor action to use. So that’s your minor action gone…
Twilight Sparkle: With my standard action and my move action, I use Magic Missile on two of the parasprites! 8 damage each.
DM: No to-hit roll?
Twilight Sparkle: No, it’s just direct damage.
DM: Right. Well, crap. They’re just minions right now, so they go down instantly. So now the only remaining parasprite flies off…
Twilight Sparkle: I don’t think so. My turn’s not over. I’m using my Action Point.
DM: You… what? Oh, no.
Twilight Sparkle: I get an extra standard action, which I use…
DM: No… No…!
Twilight Sparkle: …to take out the last parasprite with Magic Missile!
DM: NO, NO, NOOOOOO!!

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

More of a Rules Lawyer than a Munchkin.

The solution is fairly simple, though. She played smart, so hand her some XP.

Then have the parasprites’ siblings (the ones that spawned a few minutes ago) be fluttering around merrily outside.

You’re out a daily, and we’re on to the plot. Consider it the cranked-up difficulty setting.

The general advice is to, if possible, design plots to be fault tolerant or at least easily reparable. There’s a difference, if sometimes a fine line, between railroading and keeping a plot from falling apart at an unexpected turn. At the same time, reward players for in-character roleplaying. But most importantly, reward them for having fun and for making the game fum for the other players. After all, that’s what you’re playing a game for.

And here we have a classical example of a Munchkin ruining the GM’s best laid plans, all in the “interest” of “winning.”

Oh neat! Some weird nerdy part of me loves the comics that reduce fantasy stories into D&D terms. If only because its oh god I can see it happening

…I actually can’t wait until they do a Discord Arc.
