And also remember how AJ caught AND bucked that boulder in the scene about Rockhoof’s shovel?
I dunno, look at Lily Longsocks, and such. Earth ponies have been confirmed to be strong.
Also, AJ & Dashie lost to Twilight, because they were too busy fighting each other then pacing themselves like she did. Twilight even pointed this clearly out.
Except that was just dumb gag based on love tropes from old cartoons. There are tons of examples of earth ponies struggling with even light physical tasks, like Rainbow Dash beating AJ in hoof wrestling (even though Dash rarely uses hers) or Twilight beating AJ in race (both examples from Season 1, so exactly how intended from the start, unlike later outliers).
