If you prefer the deviantart tagging system you can go there. In here we try to keep the tags consistent to help searching. (I have not seen any artist complain about it so far.)
And by holier than thou i mean your writing style. If you used a similar attitude with a mod it’s no surprise you got the answer you got.

Personally, I think it’s better to publicize the existence of a relevant tag than to alter the meaning of one of the most basic tags in order to serve a function that I’ve literally never seen anyone else ask for.

That the universal tag is currently far away from being publicized is what is the problem here.

Actually, knowing that each image was associated with an uploader, I just reasoned that the “uploader:” tag existed; also, if you click on a user’s name to go to their profile, it’s easy to find a listing of everything they’ve uploaded there.

At least it’ll be easy to get people to use an important, universal tag, and it’s easier to learn than the “less than” and “greater than” search modifiers.

What purpose does that serve? If someone wants to see the images you drew, they can search “artist:cmc–scootaloo”; if someone wants to see the images you uploaded, they can search “uploader:cmc scootaloo”;

Which is a search tag of which literally no one knows that it exists, unless a mod or admin told you, you find it per coincidence or lucky guess or someone who was informed about this tag by a mod or admin earlier tells you about it, because the mention of the existence of this tag is buried under a massive guide, that no one should have to dig through to find an important, universal tag like this.

if, for some reason, they need to see both at once, they can search “artist:cmc–scootaloo OR uploader:cmc scootaloo”. Why isn’t that good enough? (And this is a sincere question; I’m genuinely curious as to why someone would want to see both an artist’s drawings and any other images they’ve uploaded.)

Well, perhaps because there’s the possibility that an artist has not only uploaded real art but some simple gifs and screenshot for fun and enjoyment too and someone is interested if he has? I don’t see what’s so hard to get with that.

Anyway, I have let a mod know about the tagging dispute on your uploads, so maybe we can get a definitive ruling then, as well as possibly a tweak to the “Tagging Guidelines” page to more clearly spell out the purpose of the “artist:” tag.

I let an admin know about it, and suggested the same thing when answering his message, and what I got in this message was a quite bitchy answer and an insult for not knowing the “uploader:cmc scootaloo” tag (that is buried under a gigantic wall of text, as I said).
And I’m pretty sure I’m not the first one who was confused by the unclear rules in that matter, so, I kinda doubt that a change will happen there.

As for the artist tag, it’s, as I already explained, not meant to tag the gifs as “art”, but to give everyone an easy way to find all my pictures when he searches for my artist’s tag, be they real art or not.

Which is the purpose of the artist tag, it’s not just here to find art, it’s also here to find all uploads by a specific person and therefore completely valid to use it for gifs and screenshots too.
Actually, no; the purpose of the artist tag is to give credit to the person who actually created the uploaded image. I’ve seen people warned over tagging themselves as the artist of an image because they edited it; I can’t imagine tagging oneself as the artist of a screenshot would be treated differently.

And in case you still don’t understand what I mean I make it more clear:

There’s a reason for it why Deviantart lets the artist decide how he wants to tag his pictures, because it’s an artist’s personal right to choose the tags for his pictures, and even though Derpibooru gives you the ability to change the tags on your own, you should still respect an artist’s personal decisions for how he wants to tag his pictures.
And yes, this counts for gifs like this or screenshots too, even though they are not really “art”, I still made them and uploaded them.

I also quote the tag guidelines on that for you:

“If you feel someone has inappropriately tagged an image, check the rules and if needed, change it.”

The rules don’t give any requirements or limitations on how to use the artist tag and so it’s my own decision if I want to attach this tag to non-art pictures too or not.
And a tag change is only valid if a picture has a tag that does not fit to it or if a tag clearly violates the rules, which is not the case here and that makes you removing my artist tag here not correcting wrong tagging, but simply meddling with my tag.
Don’t remove the artist tag anymore from my gifs or I’m going to inform a moderator/admin about it.

Holier than thou attitude? Like in “I’m better than everyone else”?
Do you even know what you’re talking about?
If I should upload my own art here and tag the pictures with the tags I deem necessary and someone removes my own tags on my own self-drawn picture and I call him out for it and bring back the tags, then I’m the one who is “holier than thou”? When I don’t want that people meddle with the tags on MY drawings?
You just confirm what I’m already thinking, that the users here have no respect towards an artist’s own pictures and uploads.

The tags are meant to help every user of this site, we don’t need your permission to tell you when you mistag.
@CMC Scootaloo
The artist tag does not apply, simple as that.
If you want to have good time here you should drop that holier than thou attitude. You fucked up, now it’s time to admit it and move on.

It’s already marked as one of your uploads, though, in the blue bar over the image where it says “Uploaded by CMC Scootaloo”.

Do you know what tags are good for here on Derpibooru? I added my name to the tags so that people who look up my art by searching for my name can find those gifs alongside of it.
That is, if I ever upload art made by me here. Seeing all the tag meddling that happens here I already kinda doubt that.

posting a screen cap does not make you an artist

Smarty-pants, much? I added the artist tag to show off that it’s one of my uploads and I have not asked you for your opinion on this.
