When you say it like that, it actually makes tons of sense.

This casting is so perfect!  
Twilight as Maka=incredibly powerful, very studious and intelligent, but with ambition and a sharp temper.  
Spike as Soul=Loyal to his partner till the very end, has sharp teeth and a healthy appetite, obsessed with how “cool” he thinks he is.  
Rarity as Death the Kid=Elegant and classy but also neurotic.  
Pinkie Pie as Patti=Hyperactive, giggly and childish.  
Maud Pie as Liz=More mature and stoic sister of Pinkie/Patti.  
Rainbow Dash as Black Star=Loud, showy but genuinely powerful.  
Applejack as Tsubaki=Nurturing, “big sister” type, expresses saintlike patience with her more exuberant partners.  
Fluttershy as Crona: Shy, meek, constantly frightened, but with a hidden fire that no one wants to trifle with.

I always thought Discord would make a good Excalibur. Powerful enough to rip holes into other dimensions…if you can handle him constantly pissing you off with his arrogance.
 
The Changelings would be the Witches (just like Changelings pretend to be normal ponies, Witches pretend to be humans).
 
Chrysalis would be Medusa (the best disguiser of them all, skilled enough to get inside Canterlot Castle/DWMA itself, yet utterly evil).
 
Haven’t decided who should be Stein. I thought if Discord isn’t Excalibur, maybe he could be Stein: a truly mad, chaotic person, living among the order and sanity of others.

Naw, Bluebloods too much of a priss to even handle being in a cave. I also think Excalibur would just play himself, its the role he was born to play after all.

I think Twilight would probably be a better Kid. An order of magnitude more powerful than the rest of the cast, only held back by his/her neuroses. That, and both have a close personal connection with the resident Big Good of the series, Shinigami/ Princess Celestia.
 
Kishin Asura would probably be Sombra (embodiment of the madness of fear).

Huh, let’s see here. Pretty good casting all things considered, not much of a stretch to think of them in those role-
