“Understanding MLP” by OP.
 
To fully understand the characters of “My Little Pony” we must first be fluent with their characterization, their personalities, and the quality of the episodes in which they feature prominently.  
If the character’s personality is plotted along the horizontal of a graph, and their characterization is plotted on the vertical, adding a third dimension for the quality of their episodes, then calculating the total volume of the pony yields the measure of their greatness.  
A mane character featured prominently in many episodes, such as Twilight Sparkle, should score highly on all three criteria, revealing the pony to be truly great; whereas a pony like Big Macintosh, with little screen time and few lines, would score quite low.  
As you proceed through the episodes of this show, practice this rating method. As your ability to evaluate ponies in this matter grows, so will your enjoyment and understanding of “My Little Pony.”

well i am disagreeing with the Cutie Mark Crusaders they did had a Disappointing season

The character development bar for the CMC is all wrong.

Pinkie’s personality rating a little too high after season 4. Idk, she just started to grate on me after Filli Vanilli

Princess Luna development…we never saw her change from pilot Luna to Nightmare Night Luna: 3  
Princess Luna episode quality…“Luna Eclipsed” wasn’t that good: 6  
Cadance personality: 1  
Cadance episode quality…she’s never had a focus episode: 0  
Spike development: 3…actually, he devolved from a sardonic, wisecracking voice of reason to a generic cute kid, so: -1  
Spike episode quality…way to erase “Equestria Games” from your memory just because you wanted to see more sports: 7  
Spike personality: 6

Her only episode where she deal with shyness was Filli Vanilli and the way she treat Discord or Breezies clearly indicate that she become more assertive than in previous seasons. I think Fluttershy developed but her personality is still very generic as every quiet anime character. She need to show more.

The funny thing about Fluttershy is that she doesn’t really have any character development, after her episodes are done she goes right back to being the same spineless coward she always is. Not to mention she doesn’t care if her friends get hurt, but if a butterfly gets hurt, celestia forbid that!
