I’m not saying it’s a proper assumption, just like it’s debatable whether this image is lesbian or not (there really isn’t enough data, but as I said it might just be better to err on the side of caution for those who go crazy over non-straight stuff), but that it’s more likely a gender swapped version would be even more biased to being assumed to be gay rather than platonic. That being said, you’ve definitely got a point about it possibly being even more of a joke with men (not necessarily a good thing) given people are often soo defensive about being considered gay and they know if others say their teasing it would very likely be considered as such, making it even more entertaining for the person who’s in RD’s place seeing their “victim” squirm in such a circumstance. (obviously the guy in RD’s position would have to firmly not give a crap what others think)

If I had to bet their might be at least one who advocated that such an act could be considered more teasing since such close contact would be more unusual for men which can both serve to the amused teasing idea as it would have presumably more effect in context but as well or the homosexual idea.As it always it is up to the biased viewer what to interpret but since such intamant contact by males will likely be seen more immediately here as more than acceptable for the gay tag,a perspective advocate would likely avoid wasting his breath.

To be fair in real life, there are no floating hearts or such literally rosy cheeks when someone is attracted to someone.
 
There are plenty of images on this site that are absolutely lesbian yet contain no “love hearts” or blush.
 
 
(out of curiosity, if this were gender swapped, such that guys were doing this, how much do you want to bet that there’d be no one (or at least very few who’d claim it wasn’t gay?)
 
 
Regardless, the tag is probably more used as a “when in doubt, tag it lesbian” since those who don’t want to see lesbian are likely to get far more huffy over lenient tagging then those who don’t have the tag blocked. (since either way the latter would see it)
