The largest telescope ever (realistically achievable in human lifespan, anyway) would be something sent to 550 AU from the Sun: that is, gravitational solar telescope, using the Sun as the primary lens. The irony of Sun being used for telescope to find Moonbutt is not lost.
Unrealistic versions could use some black hole, or even a whole galaxy, as the lens.

If we can’t find Luna’s Butt out there anywhere, then at least we have a new space telescope that’s bigger than anything else. One can never have too many of those.
