Honestly, I feel like they aren’t dodging at all. They reassure her that there is a purpose and a destiny involved, and proceed to regard her as one of them.  
There’s a lot of magical destiny stuff going on that doesn’t make sense and doesn’t reveal everything either.  
This is frustrating to a hyper-logical character like Twilight, but there’s not much that can be done about it.  
Obviously things were made more clear by end of the two-parter.

Mind you, I don’t hate the song for that. I find it hilarious. That issue does keep it from rivaling Celestia’s Ballad or This Day Aria as one of my favorite songs in the series, though.

You got it backwards. You made a claim. The burden of proof is on you. You have to prove the truth of your statement; I don’t have to prove it wrong.
 
And by that logic, Clover the Clever should’ve been an alicorn princess too. She did the “glowing eyes” thing IIRC.
 
…and Twilight still has no reason to be a princess. She literally has nothing to do. That’s what this song was all about. Sure, she comes up with the whole “spreading the magic of friendship” thing, but why did we have to wait an entire season for Princess Twilight to actually get some kind of purpose? Why become a princess when clearly there was no point to it?
 
We might as well make every pony an alicorn prince(ss). I’m sure we could come up with something to do for them eventually…

Well I laid it down in the comment chain, mind you, but I’ll break it down again.
 
Naturally it’s just theory. An observation of similarities. Seeing Celestia’s, Luna’s and Cadance’s eyes shock to glowing blanks when they called upon their own alicorn magic in the same fashion as Twilight’s eyes when she pulled her more spectacular feats of hatching Spike, defeating NMM and Discord, it’s really not that much of a stretch, especially when you get a phrase like ‘destiny’ involved.

As it’s been said like a billion times, Twilight isn’t meant to stand alone in the first place, her greatest power involves her friends, a power Tirek couldn’t take from them apparently. Further, that all-elusive element of magic she has is how the mane 6 ultimately wield that rainbow banhammer every time they use it, which may well be alicorn magic as I’ve suggested.
 
So yeah, a form of A-magic created and sustained in the harmony of friendship, who’da thunk from a show like this amirite?

The mane 6 defeated Tirek after Twilight LOST all her pretty pony princess powers, remember? The mane 6 used the magic of friendship to defeat him… like they used the magic of friendship to defeat every single villain before
 
Whatever Twilight ever did had nothing to do with her being a princess, or being destined to be one.
