Oh come on!!! This is a world of magic, I’m sure Twilight has invented the futa spell by now, if it hasn’t been invented already.

Yes. I wouldn’t compare animal “homosexuality” to that of humans since it differs greatly in each species. In many mammals it seems to be at least partially based in dominance, except in bonobos, which appear to be entirely bisexual and have sex with members of their species regardless of gender in a kind of “make love not war” sort of context, and to reduce stress (and yet they somehow don’t get simian immunodefiency virus).

The popular “gay penguins” thing probably wasn’t so much a homosexual relationship as merely two male penguins working together to look after an abandoned egg/chick. If two men find an abandoned child on the streets and decide to look after it together, does that mean they are homosexual? No, they are probably just good friends.

Nevertheless, it does make me laugh when conservatives point out that the penguins eventually ended their relationship. If a guy breaks up with his girlfriend, does that mean he is no longer heterosexual, or was never heterosexual to begin with? I don’t think so.

I have been researching homosexuality for some time. I think that humans are a bisexual species. A lot of people will claim to have exclusive homosexual or heterosexual orientations, but if you look closer, they may have “exceptions”, such as many heterosexual bronies being “gay for Braeburn”.

I don’t think conscious choice is a likely cause of homosexuality in men, though some lesbians have stated this. That would require a lot of self-manipulation into liking the same sex. The childhood molestation theory creates the paradox of who the first homosexual was, as nobody would be around to molest them.

While studies linking homosexuality to genes may have political bias due to the scientists often being gay themselves, the criticisms of anti-gay organizations such as NARTH are no better. Some conservative lobby groups have claimed that Dean Hamer’s study was proven fraudulent, or that he admitted there was no “gay gene” in the late 90s, but I have found no authoritative source for this and suspect it was made up or quote-mined.

I do, however, believe that Simon LeVay’s INAH 3 study was a deliberate hoax. Here are my reasons.

  1. Simon LeVay was gay himself. This is not enough to dismiss the study, but it does become a lot more suspicious when you find out that he was the only author of the study.
  2. Nobody has reproduced his study.
  3. He used the bodies of gay men who died of AIDS.
  4. He used cadavers, and did not acknowledge the possibility that decomposition or post-mortem changes changed the size of INAH 3.

    It should be noted that genetic influence does not mean genetic determinism. Full genetic determinism of homosexuality has been disproven by twin studies. A recent study suggests that the Y chromosome may be involved. See here.

    Sorry that this post was so long. Finding reliable studies on sexual orientation is difficult due to political biases (both pro and anti).

Well, at least you’re not like some people who act immature and call them derogatory slurs (like the R word) and state “downvote” whenever they see one.

@VermiIIion
Not everyone. Some people have an opinion that magical lesbian spawns aren’t right for them and make no sense. And even though I like MLS, I respect that.

At least they’re planning to adopt.

Don’t waste your time with Background Pony #0297. If he hates magical lesbian spawn, let him. He is entitled to his opinions as you are to yours. The mods will handle his actions for you. If you report him that is.

I’m sure there are many different ideas circulating around about the exact nature of lizards whose populations are entirely female. Female dogs do the kind of stuff you mentioned, and it seems to be partially related to dominance or something.

Not that it matters. We’re talking about virtually-human ponies here, not lizards.

Mexican whiptail lizards are all female. They still engage in mating behavior, and one theory is that this stimulates ovulation. So it might actually happen in real life (though the theory has been disputed).

(raises hand) I dislike MLS. It defeats the purpose of even having separate sexes in the first place. Come to think of it, didn’t we already have a similar discussion on some other image?

@VermiIIion
Trixie and Twilight both said the gender swap thing couldn’t be done, so personally I consider the issue rather moot.

Why does everyone hate Magical Lesbian Spawn? They’re unicorns, man. They have potions and magic and shit. There is the possibility of a gender-swap spell, so there’s that.
