So its like some sort of platonic life partner thing? (why they don’t actually like the being called mare friend/colt friend) I suppose I might be able to roll with that.

I suppose its not actually that different from what they have now with the whole “number one assistant” thing, its just sort of been put on steroids.

That’s only if you’ve ever seen Twilight as cultivating such a relationship, which is a very, very difficult case to make based on the canon. Spike has had to be responsible for Twilight, too, so with age the relationship has changed. Best friends make for best lovers, sometimes, after all.
